To the Editor: The formation of a book committee to “curate school library book purchases” has caused concern for a recent letter writer. I think the author has confused parental concerns to protect their children’s innocence with tolerating the infiltration of inappropriate content for their age/maturity into the school library.

Church Picnic Season About to Hit High Gear

A favorite time of year is almost here for connoisseurs of fried chicken, polka music and zima pivo (Czech for “cold beer”). The first church picnic of the year in this area, St. Michael’s Spring Festival in Weimar, takes place this Sunday,April 30. The Hostyn Mayfest follows next Sunday, May 7.

The Lady Leps Start Playoffs This Thursday

The La Grange softball team will open the playoffs Thursday April 27 against Houston Wheatley at Rice Consolidated High School. The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. but will begin 20 minutes after the completion of the 4 p.m. game being played prior.

Fayetteville Baseball Playing Well

The Fayetteville baseball team swept Richards Saturday 9-0 and 14-1. In that 9-0 win, Fayetteville got multi-hit games from Logan Fritsch, Reid Gross, Jack Schley, Travis Gully and Easton Jaeger.

Leps Baseball Battling for District Runner-Up Spot

The La Grange baseball team beat Manor New Tech 15-0 Saturday in a district game rescheduled because of last week’s storm. The win improves the Leps to 6-3 in district heading into Monday’s regular season finale at home at 7 p.m.

Leps Win Area Track Title; Busload Headed to Regionals

The La Grange track team continued their stellar spring as the Leps boys won the 21/22-4AArea track team title Friday and the Lady Leps were runner-ups in the girls team division. The Leps had 134 team points and Giddings was second with 126.
