Caboose Makes One Last Trip

Charlie Brewer of La Grange purchased the old railroad caboose that used to sit outside Moravia Store south of Schulenburg. There aren’t any tracks between Moravia and La Grange, so she hired Ray’s Crane Service to move the 60,000 lb. behemoth.
LHS Band Favorites

Friday was Band Parents Night at Leopard Stadium. The parents of all senior band members came out on the field and they were recognized along with their students. Local Leaders React as Biden Projected Presidential Winner, Trump Vows Fight

Over the weekend Joe Biden was projected as the winner of the 2020 presidential election. As of Monday morning, the Associated Press said Biden had garnered 290 electoral votes compared to 214 to Donald Trump, and he also had 50,7-percent of the national vote compared to 47.7-percent for Trump, though Trump has continued legal proceedings questioning the outcome of the election.
Theatre Returns to LG In Form of ‘Blithe Spirit’

The folks at Fayette County Community Theatre are at it again. After having to cancel half of their 2020 season due to the pandemic, they have reconvened to produce “Blithe Spirit,” a comedy by Noel Coward.
It’s Getting Dry Out There

Five firemen from the La Grange fire department responded to a brush pile fire that got out of control and spread Thursday about noon on Skillet Lane in the O’Quinn area. Assistant Fire Chief Frankie Srubar said about a half acre ended up burning and the fire was near a home but “thankfully the wind was blowing in the right direction” away from the home, Srubar said. More than 13,000 Fayette County citizens cast a ballot in this year’s general election. Nearly 72 percent of those voted early or with an absentee ballot.

La Grange versus Giddings is one of Texas’ longest running football rivalries, with the teams battling each other almost every year for over a century. But Giddings has owned the recent history of the rivalry.
Lady Leps Fall to Burnet in Playoff Opener

The La Grange girls volleyball team saw their season come to an end Friday in Thrall in a four set loss to Burnet in a 4A bidistrict playoff game. Burnet won the first set 25-13, but La Grange bounced back to win the second set 25-13.
Schulenburg’s Season Ends With Loss to No. 1-ranked Shiner

The Schulenburg high school football team faced off against an undefeated Shiner team Friday night in their last game of the season and fell short with a final score of 48-21. The loss ends the Shorthorns season with a 4-3 overall record and a 1-3 mark in district.
Drive-Through Trick-or-Treating

With many of the annual Halloween events cancelled because of pandemic precautions, locals had to get creative to celebrate the holiday safely. First Baptist Church of La Grange hosted a drive-through event where trick-or-treaters didn’t even have to get out of their car. Election Day is Here, Even as Thousands Have Voted Early

Heading into election day, more people have already voted in the state of Texas than did back in 2016 during early voting and election day combined. That 2016 vote total was 8,969,226, an all-time record then.
La Grange’s Ayres Wins National Championship

La Grange resident Annabelle Ayres won big at the National Sporting Clays Shooting Awards on Oct. 25. She is shown above, center, with her $3,000 in prize money. This most recent title as 2020 Ladies National Sporting Clays Champion adds to Ayres already illustrious shooting career. This is her sixth national title, she is the 2020 Ladies Team USA Captain and she is a two-time Ladies World Champion.

Schulenburg Shines at District CC Meet

The Schulenburg boys cross country team of Nathan Olsovsky, David Velazquez, Kael Baumgarten, Alex Jimenez, Bryce Wilson and Oz Oldham placed first at the District 28-2A cross country meet in Shiner Monday.
LG Boys Charge to District Cross Country Title; Lady Leps Second

In a chilly morning at Camp Tejas in Warda Tuesday, the La Grange boys varsity cross country team won the District 20-4A team title. The La Grange girls grabbed second place.
Visiting Antique Vendors Feel the Heat

Some antique vendors from California who were selling their wares in Round Top at one of the fall shows had some trouble getting back to their hotel in Giddings Tuesday. On the drive to the hotel at the end of their day, about 6 p.m. they smelled gas as they neared Carmine and their truck caught on fire. Winged Guests Dedicate New Butterfly Garden

No local site has been christened in such a unique way. Saturday a new butterfly garden at the Fayette Heritage Library grounds was officially dedicated by attendees all opening up envelopes with live butterflies inside.
New City Park at Hope Hill Would Have Lots of Amenities

More details have emerged on the planned city park in the Hope Hill subdivision. The La Grange city council unanimously voted to move forward with the plan, and city officials are now poised to submit a grant application to Texas Park and Wildlife next week.
Lady Leps Finish District 11-1, Tie Giddings for District Volleyball Title

A share of the district title is the Lady Leps’, but there is still a lot of work to do. The La Grange volleyball team officially clinched a share of the District 20-4A title Saturday with a 25-5, 25-6, 25-12 win over Austin LBJ in the regular season finale for both teams.
