Mendoza Sworn in to Replace Adamcik

Fayette County Commissioners appointed Sylvia Mendoza to serve the unexpired term of the late Fayette County Tax Assessor-Collector Rosalinda Adamcik, who died in office unexpectedly on August 29. Mendoza has worked in the Tax Assessor’s Office for the past five years.

County Leader Adamcik Dies

As of press time, funeral arrangements were still pending for Fayette County Tax Assessor-Collector Rosalinda Adamcik, who died this week. A longtime county employee in the tax office, Adamcik was sworn in April 1, 2015 as Tax Assessor-Collector after being recommended for the job by retiring office holder Carol Johnson.

A gravel shaker at the Texas Aggregates plant in Mullins Prairie caught fire Thursday morning, Aug. 27.
Grease Fire Starts at Former Prause Market

La Grange Volunteer Fire Department put out a big grease fire that started in the barbecue pit at the old Prause’s Meat Market building on the Courthouse Square Wednesday morning. According to Fire Chief Frank Menefee, the new building owners plan to install a new ventilation system for the barbecue pit.

COVID Closes Tax Collector Office

The Fayette County Tax Assessor-Collector Office closed its doors this week due to staff members who were exposed to the coronavirus. The office instituted a 10-day quarantine starting last Friday and plans to reopen on Monday, Aug. 24.

Several Fayette County 4-H members competed in the Virtual National Qualifier 4-H Contests in July. Mackenzie Poncik competed in the Open Family and Community Health Educational Presentation and placed 3rd overall. Her topic was “The Debate: Kolache vs. Klobasniky vs. Pig in the Blanket. Taylor Limbaugh competed in the Public Speaking Contest and placed 3rd overall. Her topic was “Franken-Meat.” Mackenzie Poncik, Abbey Nedbalek, and Austin Nedbalek competed in the Consumer Decision Making Contest. Due to COVID, Texas 4-H Roundup was canceled in June. The virtual contests gave senior 4-H members an opportunity to compete and advance to Nationals.

A Dive Into the Yucatan Peninsula

That Little Voice I haven’t done much ‘country exploring’since joining the increasing number of Ex-pats heading into Mexico, but I’m on my way to the Mexican state of Yucatan for several days. Chloe’s Closet Offers Coats for Christmas

When Chloe Mosley passed away in 2006, her home was a storeroom of clothing, toys, and books provided by His Grace and other charitable organizations. Pastor Louis Zachary and his wife Brenda agreed that Chloe’s blessings should be used to help others. Items were donated and housed at the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in La Grange.
