Saw Sparks 50-Acre Fire on Roznov Road

A grass fire on Roznov Road east of Warrenton burned about 50 acres on Monday, July 13. Round Top-Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department got the call shortly after 11 a.m.
Burn Ban In Place as Temps Reach 100

Fayette County Commissioners voted to ban outdoor burning for 90 days at a meeting held on Thursday, July 9. Fields across the County that were green a month ago turned brown over the last couple of weeks as temperatures exceeded 100 degrees.
Hurricane Housing Development Takes Shape

Construction progressed rapidly at the Falcon View residential subdivision in Schulenburg over the past few weeks. Eight of the 36 rent homes that are planned for the new neighborhood were beginning to take shape last week. The Falcon View neighborhood is being built by DSW Homes LLC using Hurricane Harvey disaster funds from the Texas General Land Office. Teen Ticketed, Two Injured in Wreck at US 90 and Interstate 10

A New Waverly teen suffered injuries after a wreck at the intersection of US 90 and Interstate 10 between Schulenburg and Weimar on Thursday. The accident happened around 3:46 p.m., according to a crash report from DPS Trooper Louis Gabler.

Driver Gets DWI After Nearly Crashing into House on July 4

A Plantersville man took a trip to jail after wrecking his car and nearly crashing into a house in Schulenburg Saturday night, July 4. According to a report from Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek, 25-year-old Dalton Slatter of Plantersville was driving south on FM 2672 in a 2019 Acura MDX.

Texas Department of Public Safety identified a suspect in the hit-and-run crash that killed Byler Lehmann last year near Warda. An arrest warrant has been issued for Ulises Arzate Gudino, 41 of Mexico. DPS Sgt. Jeremy Weiser said Gudino was the driver of a Penske truck that Lehmann crashed into on the early morning of April 4, 2019.

The staff at Second Chance Emporium have issued the following statement, saying they “would like to thank the public for the donations received over the last two and a half weeks since reopening. We know many of you were quarantined at home over the last few months and took that time to do some major closet cleaning. That being said, Second Chance is now buried with donations that must be sanitized and stored before processing following CDC guidelines. In order to make room to accept additional donations, we must ask that you hold your donations until Monday, July 6. As a reminder, we request that donations dropped off be in a condition that they can be resold; clean, good working order, not damaged or broken and contain all their related parts.”
Summer School & Construction

Things are beginning to return to normal (or at least as normal as possible) at La Grange ISD. Summer school began on Monday with 48 students in attendance in person and 11 students participating through virtual learning and packets. The schedule will have two weeks of instruction followed by one week off and then two more weeks of instruction. The students are being kept socially distanced in the classroom with lunch being brought to them in to go containers by the cafeteria staff.

Leps Start New Basketball Era Under Collier

The La Grange boys basketball team won their home opener Monday 60-39 over Schulenburg in an interesting battle between coaches who were working together just last season. New La Grange boys basketball coach Trent Collier was an assistant under longtime Schulenburg coach Richard Hoogendoorn the past two seasons before taking over the Leps program.
