Fayetteville Boys Win Moulton Cross Country Meet

The Fayetteville boys cross country team won the Moulton meet last week in the 1A/2A classification and Cole Fenhaus was the individual champion. Here’s how the Lions did: Boys individual medal winners were: Cole Fenhaus (1st) 17:39 Keagan Supak (4th) 19:03 Kolton Vasut (8th) 20:00 Cash Smith (11th) 20:26 Ty Knight (12th) 20:32 Jake Kubala (15th) 20:38 Lawson Fritsch (16th) 20:50 Junior High Girl Medal Winner was: Lainey Gromaski (13th) 16:25 Junior High Boys Team got 5th Place and individual medal winners were: Kole Schmitt (9th) 13:49 Mason Fenhaus (10th) 13:55.

Car Fire Spreads

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Wednesday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. their office received multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle and grass fire on State Hwy. 71 westbound near Halstedt Rd. The La Grange Fire Department and Ellinger Fire Departments were notified and responded to the scene along with Deputies Ryan Meagher and Ted Thomas. Upon arrival it was reported the vehicle was fully engulfed and a large grass fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no reported injuries. The driver said he was driving on his property when the vehicle stopped running.’ As he walked back to his house the grass caught fire under the vehicle and spread quickly. The 2005 Nissan Xterra was a total loss.
Monument Hill’s Texas Heroes Day Events are This Saturday

On Saturday, Sept. 18, Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host its annual Monument Hill Remembrance Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. As part of state-wide Texas Heroes Day commemorations, this ceremony honors the Republic of Texas soldiers killed in the Dawson and Mier Expeditions who are entombed on Monument Hill. This year’s ceremony will feature special remarks from Fayette County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1, the Honorable Judge Kyle Hartmann, as well as the traditional wreath-laying ceremony and gun salute led by costumed re-enactors. Seating for the ceremony may be limited. Personal lawn chairs are welcomed and encouraged. Admission fees are waived for ceremony attendees.
How Was This Year’s Fayette County Fair?

Fayette County Fair President Michael Zuhn told the Record on Wednesday that attendance at the Fair was down compared to 2019. He did not yet have complete attendance numbers, but he expected to get those numbers later this week.
Murdered La Grange Woman Dreamed of Being a Teacher

Investigators have not yet released the name of the woman murdered in La Grange on Saturday, but the victim’s mother, Michelle Phillips, identified her slain daughter as 20-year-old Ezrianna Poncik of La Grange.

Leps Lose First Game on Their New Turf

The Leps dug themselves a hole on the new artificial turf that was too deep to climb out of. In the first game on the new playing surface at Leopard Stadium (which was just finished being installed the day before the game) La Grange miscues helped Canyon Lake take a 17-point first quarter lead in what ended up being a 31-14 win for the Hawks.

Fayetteville Wins Again The Fayetteville volleyball team ran its record to a perfect 26-0 with a three-set sweep of Nixon-Smiley Friday 25-18, 25- 22, 25-18. Brooklyn Jaeger had 24 kills.

The tough pre-district schedule for the La Grange volleyball team continued Friday as stateranked 2A power Schulenburg came to town and beat the Lady Leps in five sets 18-25, 25-21, 25-18, 21-25, 7-15.
Flatonia Holds Off Late Rally From Stockdale To Win by Two Points

A game-tying two-point conversion try by Stockdale was stopped by Flatonia with 13 seconds left in the game Friday as the Bulldogs escaped with a 28-26 victory on homecoming. Flatonia’s Fidel Venegas ran for three touchdowns as also threw for 157 yards to lead the Bulldogs attack.
Wessels Crowned Queen as County Fair Returns

The fair was back to normal. After most of The Fayette County Fair was cancelled last year because of the pandemic, Labor Day weekend was back to being festive at the fairgrounds in La Grange this year.

The Fayetteville volleyball team improved its record to 25-0 with a four set victory in Fayetteville Tuesday. The Lady Lions lost the first set 26-24, but came back to win the next three 25-17, 25-14, 25-22. Brooklyn Jaeger had 33 kills and Kayme Schley had 12. Schley had five aces and Jaeger had four blocks.
Konvicka’s Setting Helps Lady Lions to Perfect Record, Fayette Co. Player of the Week Honors

Fayetteville senior volleyball player Mattie Konvicka has contributed in all aspects for the undefeated Lady Lions. In recent games against Weimar and Palacios High Schools, she recorded 29 assists in each game. “Huge role on the team being a setter,” said Fayetteville head volleyball coach Clint Jaeger. “First year being the setter full-time and just stepping up into that role and doing it well. Someone’s got to run the offense. We got some really good hitters, but if we can’t get them the ball, it doesn’t mean a whole lot. She’s doing a good job of running the offense and getting us going.” Konvicka’s awareness to set up her team has led her to a nomination for this edition’s Player of the Week.
Fayetteville Baseball Field Getting Artificial Turf Infield

The La Grange football field isn’t the only playing surface in Fayette County getting a bright green facelift this summer. For the last several weeks an artificial turf infield has been going in at Fayetteville’s SPJST ballpark, home of the reigning state 1A baseball champion Lions.

Car Hits Guardrail, Flips on Side

Fayette County EMS treats the driver of a Kia SUV that rolled on its side on State Highway 71 near Zapalac Road Monday morning. The wreck happened around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 30. A witness said the SUV hit a guardrail before rolling on its side. The driver was not seriously injured. Leps Stun Rockdale With Last Second Block, Return

With one jump into the night sky, Bravion Rogers changed the direction of a football, a game and a young season. In an ending so stunning it almost had to be seen to be believed, the Leps snagged a 35-29 victory from the brink of defeat in the season opener in Rockdale.

Already knowing that I would pursue the house moving business with my dad, I didn’t think chemistry could help me that much. But since it was a required subject, I studied it. Fayette County Spring Coyote Control Contest Announced

The Fayette County spring Coyote Control Program begins on Jan. 8, and ends April 30. The contest is being held to give landowners, producers, and sportsmen an opportunity to assist in the control of coyotes in Fayette County. Coyotes cause predation on livestock and result in economic losses to agricultural producers in the county.
