In Tuesday’s edition we had some about the Carmine house fire, here’s more: Last Friday morning around 10:50 a.m. the Sheriff’s office received several 911 calls reporting a structure fire on Spur Loop 458 near Fuchs Rd.
Fisher Inducted Into Rodeo Ring of Honor

Swiss Alp’s Ralph Fisher was inducted into the South Central Rodeo Ring of Honor Oct. 16 at a ceremony in Giddings. Fisher was honored because of his amazing 42 years as a rodeo clown during which time he also was an animal trainer and did comedy acts at rodeos. To the right are some photos of Fisher in action that were included on his plaque. Above is the induction ceremony. High School Volleyball Playoffs Begin This Week

The La Grange volleyball team lost to Giddings in four sets Friday in a tie-breaker match for playoff seeding purposes. Giddings won 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 25-19.

The La Grange football team had a three word slogan going into Friday’s game “Rewrite the Script.” They even had the initials “RTS” on all their helmets. They wanted to rewrite the script against a Giddings team that had beaten them six years in a row.

The Fayette County Community Theatre will end the 2021 season with a moving American classic by John Steinbeck. Of Mice and Men is a deeply felt play about loneliness, dreams, and different types of power. “This is a story written in 1937, that still has relevance today,” said director Susannah Mikulin. “It’s an important story to tell, and we are honored to bring it to our community.”

A house fire Saturday destroyed a home on Spur 458 in Carmine. The Carmine and Ledbetter volunteer fire departments responded.

Ellee Sodolak Qualifies for State Cross Country Meet

On Monday, October 25 the La Grange boys and girls varsity cross country teams competed in the Region III meet in Huntsville. With 32 teams and over 170 runners in each event, the girls team finished 20th with top runner Ellee Sodolak finishing 19th and qualifying for the state meet on Saturday Nov.
Fayetteville Boys Win Regional CC Title

For the second consecutive season the Fayetteville boys cross country team is headed back to the state meet. The Lions won the 1A regional cross country title this week as their top five times edged runner-up Tilden McMullen County.
Lady Leopards are District Volleyball Co-Champs for Second Straight Year

The La Grange varsity volleyball team put the finishing touches on a second consecutive District 20-4A co-championship with a sweep at Austin LBJ Tuesday in the regular season finale for both teams. The Lady Leps defeated LBJ 25-6, 25-7, 25-3 to improve to 20-24 overall and 11-1 in district.
Fayetteville Improves to 40-1

The Fayetteville volleyball team defeated Somerville Tuesday 25-10, 25-10, 25-10 in the regular season finale for both teams. The victory improved the Lady Lions’ overall record to 40-1 and completes their perfect 14-0 run through district play.
Dying to Get In

The price on real estate in a certain part of La Grange might soon go up 70 percent, and people are literally dying to get a piece. La Grange City Manager Shawn Raborn presented a plan to the City Council on Monday to raise the fees on burial plots in the La Grange City Cemetery.

Bonfire & Spooky Stories on the Bluff

Come enjoy local legends and tall tales of Fayette County. Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host a bonfire and spooky stories program on Saturday, Oct. 30. Gates open at 6 p.m. for guests to watch the sunset and bring your own picnics to enjoy. Weather and conditions permitting, the bonfire will be lit around 6:45 p.m. Spooky stories begin at 7 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring picnics, beverages, chairs or blanket, and flashlights. Lady Leps Cruise in Final Home Match

The La Grange varsity volleyball team played its final home match of the regular season Friday, easily beating Austin Achieve 25-3, 25-4, 25-8. The victory improves the Lady Leps’ overall record to 19-25 and their district mark to 10-1.
Lady Horns Clinch 27-2A District Volleyball Title

The Schulenburg volleyball team officially clinched the district title with a sweep of Ganado Friday. The Lady Horns won 25-9, 25-7, 25-9 to improve to 31-9 overall and 9-1 in district.
Leps Climb Back in Playoff Race With 34-0 Win Over Gonzales

In as dominating a performance as they’ve had in at least three years, the La Grange football team manhandled Gonzales on the road Friday in a 34-0 win. It was the first time since 2018 (in a 29-0 win that year over Brookshire) that the Leps held an opponent scoreless.
New Bridge Work Has Stopped in LG Because of Material Shortages

The Texas Department of Transportation cited supply chain issues as the reason for a work stoppage on the Business 71 bridge project in La Grange. Work on the bridge came to a stop several weeks ago.

Lady Ducks Beat LG To Stay in First Place

The Taylor girls came to La Grange and all but mathematically clinched the district basketball title Tuesday with a 52-38 win over the second place Lady Leps. The victory vaults the Lady Ducks to 9-0 in district while La Grange fell to 6-2 in district and 16-10 overall.

It’s now a dozen wins in a row for the surging La Grange boys basketball team. The Leps welcomed Taylor to La Grange Tuesday by bashing the Ducks 64-46.

Shelter Has 87 Animals In Care

As of Jan. 19, the total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 61: 28 dogs and 33 cats in need. As of Jan. 19, the shelter has 87 animals in care: 47 dogs/40 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

Man, 75, Rescued from Floodwaters

Game Warden Shaun Bayless along with the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department rescued a man who capsized a boat on Cummins Creek Wednesday. Bayless said he received a call around 1:50 p.m.
