Colorado County U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Dawn Hoffmann reminds livestock producers who suffered grazing losses that occurred throughout 2023 due to drought to report their losses timely and to enroll in the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) by Jan. 30, 2024.

The county-wide feral hog contest is being held to give landowners, producers, and sportsmen an opportunity to control feral hogs in Fayette County. The feral hog population causes economic losses to Fayette County Agriculture producers through crop destruction, pasture and livestock losses, and environmental damage.

Texas Ramp Project 2023 Year In Review

The Texas Ramp Project (TRP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free wheelchair ramps to low-income older adults and people with disabilities identified by local health care providers and social workers. Ramps are built exclusively with volunteer labor, keeping costs to a minimum. Ramps are built without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, age, or gender.

Animal Shelter Weekly Update

As of Jan. 5, total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 23: 8 dogs and 15 cats in need. As of Jan 5, the shelter has 70 animals in care: 36 dogs/34 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

Annual You Matter Beard & Moustache Competition Jan. 20

The You Matter Beard & Moustache Competition is in it’s third year and will be donating all of the proceeds to the Wellness Council of the greater Colorado Valley. In the first two years, the competition has been able to raise $55,000, allowing the council to assist the Colorado County Sheriff’s department in hiring a mental health deputy.

FBI: Threat Against Jewish Places of Worship Included Schulenburg Temple
