Locals Compete in Martial Arts in Houston

Professional and amateur martial artists from all over the world, came together this past weekend in Houston to experience the best in traditional and sport martial arts. The Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame (UMAHoF) sponsored instructors representing Kung-Fu, Karate, Bushikan Ninjutsu, Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, MMA, Police JuJitsu and others.
Football Expert Gets Paid

Javier Torres of Flatonia was the first winner this season in our reader Pick-It contest. He is shown here, right, getting $300 (we bumped up the prize money over the last few weeks as nobody won) from Kyle Janda of Fayette Savings Bank, the sponsor of the contest. Torres correctly picked all 10 winners last week along with four other people. But his 35-21 prediction of the Navasota/La Grange score (it was 33-21) in the tiebreaker won him the money. Torres said he looked closely at previous game outcomes before making his picks.

The Champs Get Their Rings

After riding around the town square on a fire truck as the Grand Marshalls of the Lickskillet parade Sunday, the members of Fayetteville’s 2021 1A state baseball championship team all gathered at a stage on the lawn in the center of town where they were presented with their championship rings in front of a big festival crowd.
Big Wins for County Volleyballers

La Grange The La Grange varsity volleyball team went to Manor New Tech Friday and easily won 25-7, 25-8, 25-10 to improve their record to 18-23 overall and 9-1 in district. Maddi Mach led the La Grange attack with 12 kills and Layne Wied and Maddi Fritz each had seven.

Traditions on Display at Annual Heritage Fest in La Grange

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center held its annual Heritage Fest and Muziky at the Center’s Czech Village in the Fayette County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 16. County Donating Half Million in Grant Funds to Hospital

Fayette County Commissioners voted unanimously to contribute $500,000 in federal grant funds to the capital improvement campaign at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.
Antiquers Descend On Fayette Co. Again

Some antiques vendors in Round Top and Warrenton reported their best sales ever during this year’s spring antiques show, and they expect similar sales for the fall show that begins this week. “The spring was the best show I ever had,” said Mark Kirkscey, a dealer from East Bernard who specializes in primitives.
National Essay Winner

The Catholic Daughters of America holds an education contest annually, and St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg is proud to announce a first place national award winner. Miranda Bonner, daughter of Matt Bonner and Erin Bonner, won first place in the local, state, and national level for her essay entitled, “Show Love to One Another.” She was honored at the September CDA meeting and at the Thursday school mass. LG Wards to Change

The City of La Grange will have to redraw its voting wards due to population changes identified by the 2020 Census. The new census figures show that Ward 2 decreased in population by about 28 percent.

Weldon Koenig grinned ear to ear when he walked out of the La Grange Noon Lions Club meeting last Thursday, Jan. 18. Parked outside the Frisch Auf Country Club was his father’s old tractor, a 1952 Farmall Super C, meticulously restored by Koenig’s friend and fellow Lion Sam Wilson.

Quakes Prompt Officials to Limit Disposal Wells

C The Texas Railroad Commission has suspended nearly two dozen permits that allow oil and gas companies to inject saltwater into the ground, which regulators say has contributed to increased earthquakes of greater magnitude in West Texas.
