Local Softball Players Third at Nationals

The Texas Lady Aces 16-under softball team competed in the 2021 USSSA World Series Open Division in Viera, Florida last week. Playing great teams from all over the country, the small town ladies from (Weimar, La Grange, Bellville, Flatonia, Shiner and Brazos ISDs) brought their “A” game. Great pitching backed up by great defense and timely hitting set the tone early as they went 3-0 in pool play to earn the #1 seed. After losing the second bracket game 2-1 to the eventual champions, they battled back through the losers bracket to bring home 3rd place. Fireman Runs to Safety as Truck Hit While Responding to a Fire

An inattentive driver struck a fire truck on July 4 in Carmine. Carmine firefighters were putting out a 18-wheeler fire on US 290 when the wreck occurred.

Talk around Round Top about public housing mustered about half the town to a meeting on the morning after Independence Day, Monday, July 5. About 50 people squeezed inside the old precinct courthouse, near where many of them gathered the day before for the town’s 171st Fourth of July Celebration.
The Coach Who Practiced What He Preached

In the summer of 1972, the Schulenburg community was anxious. The year before, the Schulenburg Shorthorns had gotten as far as the Class A state football semi-final championship, a very respectable showing, indeed. A prestigious publication called Dave Campbell’s Texas Football picked the Shorthorns to take the title, even though the school board had just hired a coach named Tom Walker.
Local Teams Win Select Baseball Titles

The 11-under CenTex Storm baseball team played last weekend at the USSSA State Championship tournament in Conroe and won the title. Volleyball National Champs

The TexStar 16-year-old volleyball team won the National title at the AAU Tournament in the Aspire Division in Florida last week, going 14-0 to beat out 134 other teams. Several local athletes are on the team, including La Grange High School’s Hailey Hill and Madison Fritz and Fayetteville’s Brooklyn Jaeger, who was named the MVP. Fayette County Recylcled 1.2 Million Pounds Last Year

We’ve been having another great year within the Fayette County Recycling Program, recycling over 1.2 million pounds in plastic, newspaper, magazines, cardboard and aluminum (as of Oct. 31.) According to a Keep Texas Recycling report, 4.1 million gallons of water were saved by recycling.
