Lady Leps Finish District 11-1, Tie Giddings for District Volleyball Title

A share of the district title is the Lady Leps’, but there is still a lot of work to do.

The La Grange volleyball team officially clinched a share of the District 20-4A title Saturday with a 25-5, 25-6, 25-12 win over Austin LBJ in the regular season finale for both teams.

But it was right back to the court for the La Grange girls Monday as they were set to play the team they tied with, Giddings, at 6 p.m. in Smithville to break the tie for playoff seeding purposes.

La Grange and Giddings both went 11-1 in district play with their lone losses coming against one another.

Regardless of Monday’s outcome, both teams will head to the playoffs later this week, opponents, sites and dates to be determined.

And also regardless of Monday’s outcome, La Grange (which has a 16-13 overall record) can call itself district champs.

“It doesn’t matter who is in the district, it always feels good to be district champs,” said La Grange head coach Leslie Contrain.

“It feels really good, really rewarding,” said Lanie Doyle, one of five seniors on the Lady Leps team, after Saturday’s win.

“I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this team,” said Ryann Marshall, another senior.

Saturday Marshall led the Lady Leps in kills with 10. Maddi Fritz had eight, Doyle and Natalie Blackwell had seven each.

Doyle led in digs with 17, Blackwell had 16 and Emma Coltrain had 15.

Brynna Stackhouse had 20 assists.

Doyle had eight aces and Marshall had seven.

The La Grange JV beat LBJ 25-3, 25-6 Saturday to finish their season with a 11-16 overall record and a 9-3 mark in district. The La Grange freshmen finish the volleyball season with a 17-6 overall record and 6-2 mark in district.
