Moerbe Honored for 33 Years of Service to the City of La Grange

La Grange City Staff held a retirement party for outgoing Mayor Janet Moerbe, who has served the City for 33 years, first as a city councilwoman and the last 20 years as Mayor. The celebration took place Friday afternoon on the grounds of the La Grange Public Library. City employees and officials from other local governments stopped by to congratulate Moerbe on her retirement. She presided over one more City Council meeting on Monday, May 10. Unmarked Children’s Graves In Dubina Get New Headstones

Dubina was started in 1856. And after some people passed away, they were buried next to what now is FM 1383 in Dubina. As Dubina started to grow, there was a need for a permanent cemetery. In 1866 Joseph Peter and Ignac Muzny donated land for the current cemetery. As Dubina continued to grow, a church was established in 1877. By the late 1880s the church grew to over 600 families.
Fallen Tree Blocks Road

County Commissioner Jason McBroom showed up with a chainsaw Saturday morning to remove a cedar that fell across Raymond Rd. and held back a number of motorists that were stuck between the tree and the train blocking an alternative route on Zilss Rd. “How impressive is it when you see one of our County Commissioners come out with a chain saw to help the neighbors move the tree. VFW Post No. 5254, Auxiliary Present Youth Essay Awards at Christmas Party

The Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange held their annual Christmas party at the Post Home on Tuesday, Dec. 19 beginning with a social hour and fellowship time at 5 p.m. The Auxiliary held a fun fundraiser for scholarships and a guessing game to win the prizes.

This year was another good year for Precinct One Road and Bridge. We got a lot accomplished despite weather not cooperating with us. The excessive heat and lack of rain made our job a little more difficult this year.

Precinct 2 was able to rebuild and pave approximately 15 miles of road. We also replaced 3 large bridges within the precinct. The County voted to improve and expand the Precinct 2 area recycling facility, and with the assistance of Precinct 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann and his employees, the operation was a huge success.

10-Year Sentence in Drunk Driving Fatality

The 155th District Court sentenced a drunk driver to 10 years in state prison for killing a local firefighter and businessman in 2022. Taylor Levick, 24 of Woodsboro, pleaded no contest to intoxication manslaughter, a second degree felony, during a hearing before District Judge Jeff Steinhauser on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
