Running to a District Track Dynasty

The La Grange boys track team continues one of its most dominant stretches in school history. The Leps ran to the team district title Thursday in Smithville as the Leps tallied 192 points to beat second place Smithville by 28 points. The Leps also won the district boys team track titles in 2018 and 2019 and even though the district track meet wasn’t held last year because of the pandemic, the Leps were heavy favorites to win that year too. So the Leps are considering Thursday’s win a district title fourpeat. Flatonia Powerlifters Place at State

This past weekend Flatonia High School had three athletes compete in the Boys State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene. Gentry Doyle, fourth from left, competed in the 114 weight class. He finished 10th squatting 245 lbs, benching 130 lbs, and deadlifting 225 lbs for a total of 610 lbs. Josh Ramirez, center, competed in the 220 weight class, he finished 5th place squatting 550 lbs, benching 325 lbs and deadlifting 500 lbs for a total of 1,375 lbs. Tadan Alvarado, right, competed in the super heavy weight class. Shorthorns Golfers Third at District

Lady Leps’ Historic Soccer Season Ends in the Area Round of Playoffs

The third round of the playoffs remains elusive for the La Grange girls soccer team. For the second time in program history, the Lady Leps marched to the second round of the 4A playoffs, but their stellar season was ended Tuesday in Rockdale with a 3-1 loss to Salado.
School Board Approves $3 Million Plan for Stadium Turf, Track

Now that the new elementary school is complete, La Grange ISD turns its attention to another big construction project. On Monday the La Grange ISD Board of Trustees approved the renovation of Leopard Stadium to include the installation of a new turf field and a new eight lane all-weather track.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man from the Jeddo area (in the far southwestern corner of the county)for criminal mischief and resisting arrest following a structure fire on the man’s property last Friday.

Wick Throws No-Hitter As Leps Win District Opener

The La Grange baseball team went to Austin Saturday afternoon for their district opener and easily defeated Austin Eastside 20-1, in a game called after five innings because of the mercy rule. La Grange senior pitcher Wyatt Wick threw a no-hitter and Kaleb Pyle had the big game at the plate for the Leps with two hits and three RBIs.
Hofferek Scores Twice as the LG Girls Win Playoff Opener

The La Grange girls soccer team is headed to the second round of the playoffs – tying the longest postseason run in Lady Leps’ soccer history. The La Grange girls head to the second round thanks to a 4-0 win over Navasota in a bidistrict playoff game Friday in Rockdale.
LGISD Second Grade Jump Rope Champions Crowned

The second-grade students at La Grange Elementary School have been working hard the past couple of months during their Physical Education class to develop and advance their jump rope skills. On March 24, the Fayette County Helpers Organization hosted the Little Leps Jumping Journey Contest for approximately 135 students.
Interstate 10 Police Chase, Standoff Has Deadly End

A police standoff on Interstate 10 ended in the self-inflicted gunshot death of a driver who led authorities on a 95-mile chase. The name of the deceased has not been released.

Winedale’s Leon Hale Dies at 99

Leon Hale, one of Texas’ most beloved writers, died Saturday at the age of 99. He lived out his final years of his life at his “country place” with his wife Babette near the Fayette/Washington County line in Winedale after retiring from the Houston Chronicle in 2014.

La Grange Soccer Teams Open the Playoffs Friday

Two years ago, the La Grange boys and girls soccer teams made school history with the program’s longest playoff runs in the sport. The Lady Leps advanced to the second round and the Leps advanced to the third round.
Storm’s Balancing Act

Tuesday night a powerful storm blew through Fayette County with high winds that took down lots of branches. Mostly damage was minimal, but this huge sycamore tree (estimated wight of about 2,000 pounds) snapped at 977 N. Jackson Street and then stayed balanced atop the roof, apparently doing no major damage. Blinn’s Fall Enrollment Highest Since 2019
