Legion & Auxiliary
The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fairgrounds in La Grange. This being the first meeting of the year 2024, members are encouraged to attend to discuss business matters. New potential members are invited to attend and join. A light meal will be served following the meeting.
There’s more The Fayette County Retired Teachers’Association will meet on Monday, Jan. 8, at the Fellowship Hall of the New Life Methodist Church, located at 1215 Von Minden in La Grange. Social time will be 1:30 p.m., business meeting is at 2 p.m. Members are reminded of the following: bring treats and snacks for the Teacher Appreciation Baskets which will be filled at the end of the meeting, homemade goodies are accepted, but should be individually wrapped, baskets will be delivered to all Fayette County Public Schools; Bring 2023 (January-December) total of volunteer hours. Silver Czech Toler to the US Dollar
Join the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (TCHCC) on Jan. 12 at 3 p.m. for the opening of From the Silver Czech Toler to the US Dollar exhibit presented by the East Bohemia Museum in Pardubice and the University of Pardubice, Czech Republic. The 10-panel Petr Vorel Coin Exhibit will familiarize all with the history of the dollar’s currency that began in a deep forest gorge in the northwest part of today’s Czech Republic and has lasted for almost half a millennium. The exhibit is on the occasion of 500 years of the Silver Thaler in Bohemia. Prof Dr. Petr Vorel and his team from the Czech Republic will be visiting and give a short program at 3 p.m. prior to the opening of the exhibit. A reception will follow in the Hanslik Hall. LG ShowFund Fun Night
The 20th Annual La Grange Show Fund Fun Night will be held Jan. 13, 2024 at the Round Up Hall Fair Pavilion. The invitations have been mailed. There are single meal tickets for $50 and available for purchase at Fayette Savings Bank in La Grange or any Show Fund member. The single meal ticket includes entrance, a rib-eye steak dinner, drinks, dessert and opportunity to play games. This event directly supports the 4H and FFA students who participate in the Fayette County Livestock Show. Youth Tour Application Deadline Jan. 19 Applications are being accepted for the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 16-23, sponsored by Fayette Electric Cooperative.
