In January 2023, the double-box concrete bridge was completed and opened on John Zurovec Rd. in Cistern. We had several bridges replaced with the assistance of the Tx-DOT Off-System Bridge Match program. In July, the bridge on Boehnke Rd at Bushy Branch was started and completed in October. Parkerville Rd. at Live Oak Creek was started in September and completed in December. Wallace Rd. at Buckners Creek started in October, and the completion date is set for January 2024.

We have several bridges under contract for 2024—North Old Smithville at Buckners Creek and South Old Smithville at Live Oak Creek. Also, in January, the surveying work will start on the bridge at Old Hallettsville Rd. over Mulberry Creek. The estimated start time will be in September 2024.

A resolution was signed in December to add a bridge at Freyburg-Engle Rd. over Rocky Creek.

It was a busy time in 2023 for bridge replacement, and it will be even busier in 2024.

We were able to repave the streets of Muldoon in April and May. We then moved to the Cistern area and reworked and repaved Wood Creek Dr., Windmill Cove, Wood Hollow Dr., and Wood Duck Dr. After the completion of that area, we moved to Engle and reworked one mile of Klekar Gin Rd. and two miles of Wolters Rd. All in total, 7.7 miles were reworked.

I want to thank the residents of these roads who were willing to give water during the drought so that the road work could continue. These roads were only completed with your help.

We have already begun roadwork for 2024, starting with 1.3 miles of Elm Creek Rd.

In 2023, we sold two 20year tractors and replaced them with one New Holland and one John Deere tractor. We also purchased a used herbicide spray truck to help spray roadways and intersections.

Our plan for 2024 is to rehab approximately ten miles of paved road and haul ten miles of gravel roads. Precinct 3 has the largest percentage of roads. It contains 261 miles of roadway. Of these roads, 222 miles are paved, and 39 miles are gravel.

I appreciate them every day and with every after-hours, middle-of-the-night storm call they have to go out on.
