Dockery: “I’m Honored” After Winning LG Mayor’s Race
Mersiovsky Beats Trio for School Board, Gross Joins LG Council
Jan Dockery won the La Grange election for mayor. She defeated Sarah Mabry and Tex Paul Parker with 59 percent of the vote.
Unofficial vote totals were:
Jan Dockery - 462
Sarah Mabry - 314
Tex Paul Parker - 7
Dockery said she was planning an election night watch party with several family members, but those plans were cancelled due to bad weather on Saturday.
“I told everyone to stay at home so they wouldn’t have to travel in the bad weather,” Dockery said. “My oldest niece set up a Zoom meeting instead, and it was awesome visiting with my cousins in Indiana and California, nieces and sisters.
“When the early numbers came in, it sounded positive, but you never know how an election will turn out, especially with the rainy weather on Saturday,” she added. “I did not expect the numbers to be so high in the City, just because of elections in previous years. I’m honored I had so much support.”
Dockery said her priorities as Mayor will include an emphasis on affordable housing and positive activities for youth and young families.
“I want to see some more things for our youth to do, also for our young parents who are raising kids,” Dockery said. “The time that families get to spend together is more valuable than anything. Casino Hall brings in positive entertainment, Movies on the Square and programs like that. I can’t wait to see what other things we can put into place.”
Dockery replaces Janet Moerbe, who had been La Grange mayor for 20 years but did not seek re-election. Moerbe endorsed Dockery.
Mabry congratulated Dockery on the election win: “Just as soon as the results were in, I called Jan first and offered her my full congratulations. I certainly appreciate all the people who believed in me, supported me and voted for me. It was a great campaign.
“This county is very fortunate to have Terri Hefner running the elections,” Mabry added. “Her and her staff, you couldn’t ask for more integrity. I am impressed. They never failed.”
In the City Council Ward 1 election, Katie Gross defeated Sandy Hooper 141-44.
Three other Council incumbents ran unopposed:
Ward 2
John “Honza” Cernosek – 94
Ward 3
Bonnie B. Busch – 206
Ward 4
Pat Janca – 196
Propositions A-S, the ballot measures to update the city charter, all passed
In the La Grange ISD school board Place 6 election, Calvin Mersiovsky defeated the incumbent and two other challengers.
Many expected the four-way race to head to a runoff. At the end of Election Day, however, Mersiovsky collected 672 votes, 58 percent of all the ballots.
The unofficial vote totals were:
Calvin Mersiovsky - 672
Kari Brawley - 204
Cindi Virnau - 152
Emily Gonzalez - 116
