Gravel Shaker Catches Fire
A gravel shaker at the Texas Aggregates plant in Mullins Prairie caught fire Thursday morning, Aug. 27.
La Grange firefighters got the call around 9 a.m. Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the fire started when some employees were working on the shaker.
“They were doing some cutting in there with a torch, and some slag fell, which started it up,” Menefee said.
The hot slag ignited grease and oil inside the hopper. The fire spread to some rubber belts that began burning.
Menefee said the fire was contained to the gravel shaker’s hopper. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. There were no reported injuries.
