Fayette Co. Retired Teachers Attend Day at the Capitol

April 12 was “Day at the Capitol” for all Texas retired teachers; approximately 175 from District 13 (14 counties surrounding Fayette) were in attendance, and the following were from Fayette County: Lisa Slinkard, Melanie Mica, Chris Morrison, Sandra Aschenbeck, Debbie Morrill, Jeanne Wetjen, Kathy Migl, and Karen Fitch.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter Awards Scholarships

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 is pleased to announce the 2023 winners of the thirteen $1,000 Scholarships. The chapter hopes this will help them continue their education to becoming a positive contributing member of the American Society.

Kay Marburger Thanked for Her Longtime Service to Quilt Museum

Kay Marburger was celebrated this week at the regular Colorado Valley Quilt Guild Meeting. Kay has stepped down as the CVQG/TQM Liaison and Volunteer Coordinator (in charge of the Museum’s docent schedule), a position she’s held since the Museum first opened its doors in 2011.

That Little Voice It’s been an interesting, and stressful, couple of weeks as I returned to the states for my annual visit to doctors of all sorts. This yearly trek puts me in physical touch with my stepdaughter, her husband, and my step-son, as well as a cadre of physicians waiting to prod, poke, and scare the well developed stuffing out of me with all the ‘maybes’ they offer.

Community Curation: Our Kids Need It

To the Editor: I am pleased that the LGISD Administration, as overseen by the Board of Trustees, has (again) pledged to form a committee, with community represented, to curate and approve materials for the LGISD libraries. It is well past time that they deliver on this promise, but better late than never.

Summer is quickly approaching and La Grange Noon Lions Club members turned out in numbers to help install some shade tarps for the animals at Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter serving Fayette County.

Animal Shelter Has 113 in Care

Kitten and puppy season is here, and the intake is climbing. As of April 28, total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 492: 267 dogs and 225 cats in need. As of April 28, the shelter has 113 animals in care: 52 dogs/61 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.
