Senior Connections Planning More Outings
Well, after several weeks of non-stop action, we had a wonderful time at Senior Connections this week and are looking ahead to what’s coming up next.
With all the rain comes a stirring in our hearts that makes us want to get out and enjoy all the natural beauty around us. We are planning at an outing to the Lyric Theater in Flatonia to see the “80’s for Brady” movie because we are ready for a good laugh. Thursday, May 11 is looking good for us to bust a move, so we will get the sign-up sheet going. Come join us for some afternoon fun and a hot meal from Jamie’s Café at the Flatonia Stockyards.
The month of May brings many family holiday events like Mother’s Day, graduations, and weddings. Lots of family gatherings will be taking place, and church picnic season is around the corner, too. The group that is meeting on Fridays at the Senior Connections is getting into some genealogy and legacy storytelling, which will then be transcribed for everyone to put into a binder that will be theirs to keep. Then, we will branch off into artwork that reveals another layer of the story. This combination of different ways to share a memory is going to be exciting. Again, we ask you to give us a call at (979) 743-3227 if you have any questions or would like to participate. We are looking for some new members to come in and join for outings and for specific programs.
Cynthia Myer was the winner of the final Bingo game we play every Wednesday-Shiner Blackout, she won a lovely springtime wreath and was so excited because it matched her décor at home. Then, the next week, the Blackout winner was Julie Clements and she won a $10 gift card to Arlan’s grocery store.
We are so grateful for all the support we get from our community, in so many ways. Just the other day, we got a call from Debbie Blansitt, the Director of the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry. The Dairy Queen had a fiasco and the bread delivery man came when they didn’t expect him too, so the fresh bread was donated to the Food Pantry, and Debbie was calling to see if we could use some hot dog and hamburger buns, and we said yes, we sure can.
Changes we made to our menu, so we could use the bread without having to put it in our freezer. Chili Cheese Dogs were on the menu last week and all the hot dog buns were utilized, then we added a Sloppy Joe Sandwich day in early May and will use the hamburger buns for that day. Thank you to Dairy Queen and to the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry for helping us with some cost savings and for making a difference for a lot of people. This is the type of helping each other that makes it possible to organizations like ours to stretch a limited budget and still be able to accomplish our mission, which is to enhance the quality of life for the seniors we serve.
The upcoming Lunch & Learn Series speakers for May will be Monday, May 8, 2023, Kyle Janda, Compliance Officer from Fayette Savings Bank in La Grange, will come in to speak to us regarding Identity Theft and How to Avoid Scams aimed at Seniors.
