Local and State Winners Announced in Catholic Daughters Education Contest

Winners in the Court Annunciation #1962 La Grange, Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA), National CDA Education Contest were announced on Tuesday, May 26. This contest is held annually on the local Court level with the first place entries being sent to Texas State CDA for judging; and then these first place entries are advanced to the National CDA Education Contest.

Record Welcomes New Warda News Correspondent

Last week was Gladys Giese’s last column as news correspondent for the Warda news. She began writing the weekly column at approximately 15 years of age. She stopped briefly while living in Houston, but picked back up again in the 1970s. We are grateful for her work and dedication over these many years.

High Wire Act

Gary Antosh snapped this photo last Friday in the early afternoon at his home west of La Grange of a copperhead balancing on the top wire of his fence, about four feet off the ground. “I’ve seen a lot of copperheads in my day, but I’ve never seen one straddle a barbwire line like that,” Antosh said. He added that it’s been a busy year so far for copperheads on his property. He’s seen six.

AMEN Serves 675 Individuals In May

The AMEN Food Pantry has made changes due to the coronavirus impact. The pantry hours have changed to Monday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 noon with a drive-thru format only. This change was made due to the heat in the afternoons. The volunteers build food bags and disperse by family head count to the clients.
