CDA No. 1962 Meets, New Officers Installed

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962 held their monthly meeting on May 26 at 7 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Meeting Room.

After the opening prayer, the CDA State Scholarship winners Vicente Cabrera and Mikaylee Supak received their scholarship certificates. Their mothers, who are members of the court, were also in attendance for the presentation. Member Shirley Schaeffer received the certificate for her granddaughter, Emelia Ambrose, who was unable to attend.

Twenty-seven Local Court Education Contest winners were awarded. Certificates were presented to those in attendance.

The minutes and treasurer’s report were approved as presented. Treasurer Anna Boyd presented the recommendations from the Committee regarding the amount of funds the court will pay towards expenses of members attending the CDA National Convention in July. A total of $2,000 was approved to be divided amongst those attending. The delegates attending are Mary Lou Anderle, Shirley Antosh, Debbie Greene and Peggy Sulik. Also attending is Chairman of Fundraisers/Color Guard, Cindy Novak.

The court approved the appreciation gifts for the priests and deacons affiliated with CDA Court No. 962. Texas State Court Memorial Scholarship Enrollments and thank you cards will be sent to Court Chaplain Fr. Alberto Carbajal Madera, Court Spiritual Advisor Deacon Mike Meismer and Deacon Enrique Sada-Coeto of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange; Fr. Dan Kahlich and Deacon John McCourt of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Plum and Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn; and Fr. Bernard Hung and Deacon Bernard Meuth of Saint Paul Catholic Church in Smithville.

A monetary gift will be given to Father Dan for his retirement and priest appreciation.

Fr. Alberto and Deacon Mike will also receive monetary appreciation gifts.

Elections for the 2020-2022 officers for Court No. 1962 were held. The following officers were elected: regent, Shirley Antosh; Vice Regent, Carolyn Weishuhn; Recording Secretary, Mary Lou Anderle; Financial Secretary, Marilyn Kothmann; and Treasurer, Judy Evanicky.

Members were reminded of the Sacred Heart Novena beginning on June 10th leading up to the feast day on June 19th. A 24 Adoration Hour will begin on June 18th and end with Benediction and Mass on the 19th at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange.

Members were also reminded of the CDA summer book study on the “33 days to Merciful Love” by Father Michael E. Gaitley. This will begin on June 17 through Zoom video conferencing. Interested members should contact Debbie Greene at the Sacred Heart Parish Office for details.

After the closing prayer by Father Alberto, the meeting was adjourned.
