Local and State Winners Announced in Catholic Daughters Education Contest
Winners in the Court Annunciation #1962 La Grange, Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA), National CDA Education Contest were announced on Tuesday, May 26. This contest is held annually on the local Court level with the first place entries being sent to Texas State CDA for judging; and then these first place entries are advanced to the National CDA Education Contest.
For the 2020 Contest, the two themes to choose from were “Blessed are the peacemakers” and “Living in harmony with others.”
The local winners: Division 1 (Grades 4-5) Poetry: 1st Emily Keilers, 2nd Quade Brothers, 3rd Chandler Fabre; Art: 1st Ella Smith, 2nd Presley Wallace, 3rd Callie Nichols; Essay: 1st Madison Hamrick.
Division 2 (Grades 6-7-8) Poetry: 1st Kaiden Perkins, 2nd Elena Supak, 3rd Anthony Anzaldua; Art: 1st Aubri Bernsen, 2nd Natalia Soto, 3rd Orlando Solorzano; Essay: 1st Ella Nygren, 2nd Jaylia Lucio.
Division 3 (Grades 9-10- 11-12) Poetry: 1st Katelyn Bernsen, 2nd Mia Solorzano; Art: 1st Ale Solorzano; Essay: 1st Katelyn Bernsen, 2nd Mia Solorzano; Computer Art: 1st Katelyn Bernsen.
Division 4 (Adult Cda Members) Poetry: 1st Brianne Bernsen, 2nd Debbie Greene, 3rd Melinda Dunk; Art: 1st Melinda Dunk; Photography: 1st Melinda Dunk, 2nd Elizabeth Kallus.
The CDA Texas State Court had also announced their winners and Court Annunciation #1962 had one State winner; Katelyn Bernsen won 1st Place in Division 3, Computer Art.
The winners were recognized at the beginning of the Court Annunciation #1962 meeting held at 7 p.m. in the meeting room off the Narthex at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Social distancing and wearing face masks was observed as well as other guidelines.
Rita Sulik, Education Contest Chairman announced the winners while Regent Mary Lou Anderle presented the certificates and monetary prizes. Helping with the presentation process were Laurie Janda, Melinda Dunk, Education Circle of Love Chairman Elizabeth Kallus, Stacy Ryza, and photographer Veronica Olivares Garza.
