Locals’ Art to Be Featured in Columbus

Plan to attend the opening of Gemini, The Two Sides of Light, an exhibition of paintings featured at the Live Oak Art Center in Columbus, Texas. The free event offers attendees the opportunity to enjoy the creative works by two nationally known and internationally collected artists, Karen Vernon and Ken Muenzenmayer of Round Top.

This husband and wife are both painters and colorists, each working in different media and with different, creative artistic voices.

While their journeys and experiences may overlap, they like twins, are each unique in expression and interests. Where Muenzenmayer is drawn to landscapes and skies, Vernon delves into the vibrant hues and patterns created in flowers. She expands her own creative exploration of color with the patterns of light in the rolling hills and pattern forest of south central Texas and her figurative paintings. Both artists are traditionalists who depart from photographic realism to abstracted expressionism.

Both artists are excited to be exhibiting at the Live Oak Art Center saying, “This is a great opportunity to show our works near home. Columbus and this region are so very fortunate to have such a lovely facility that is available to all. Art elevates life and this historical building, now an art center, is a part of providing world class work to those who come. As Hippocrates said, ‘Life is short, the art long.’ The beauty, the history, the story told of man through paintings and other creative expression, lives well beyond us individually. Creativity takes courage. And as Pablo Picasso said, ‘Everything you can imagine is real.’ Live Oak nurtures great imaginations, great lives and great people.”

The exhibition, “Gemini” will be on exhibit from June 4 to July 25, 2020. The artists’ reception will be held June 25 at 6 p.m.. The art center is open Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Live Oak Art Center is located at 1014 Milam, Columbus.
