Water Tower Ready for New Look

The Hilltop water tower in La Grange looks like it’s wearing a crown. That’s actually rigging and framework for a shroud that will cover the water tower for a paint job. The City of La Grange hired A&M Construction and Utilities of Rowlett to repaint the water tower. City Manager Shawn Raborn said the water tower needs to be repainted about once every 20 years to extend its service life. He said workers will scrape rust, prime and then paint the interior and exterior of the water tower. He said work on the inside is complete. Workers will soon raise the shroud to prime and paint the exterior. He said the project should be complete by early June. While the Federal Reserve is worrying about inflation, local governments in South Central Texas are rejoicing over increased sales tax revenue from all that spending. As of April, all nine area counties tracked by the Record have double-digit sales tax gains, compared to this time last year.

Easter at the Barnyard

The Jersey Barnyard outside La Grange continued their Easter Weekend tradition by holding their 24th annual Easter egg hunt and other festivities Saturday. Rogers Verbally Commits to Aggies

La Grange star wide receiver/ defensive back Bravion Rogers has had scholarship offers to play all over the nation, but Tuesday he verbally committed to play for Texas A&M, tweeting out a photo of himself in an Aggie uniform with the words “Committed” above. Verbal commitments are non-binding and the senior-to-be can’t officially ink a scholarship offer with any school until this fall.

Schulenburg golfer Kaz McBride holds the number one position on the golf team and recently qualified for regionals in not just golf, but tennis as well. McBride also performs on the baseball diamond and is currently batting .324 on the season while being asked to take the mound on occasion.

More than half a million dollars was raised Saturday at a special gala honoring the first 50 years of Round Top’s Festival Hill and celebrating its future. The gala was called “Prelude to the Next 50.” The event include fine food, drink, jazz and extravagant auction items.
