Longtime LG City Manager Raborn to Retire This Fall
La Grange City Manager Shawn Raborn informed council members and city staff this week of his plans to retire in September after nearly three decades overseeing city operations.
“We’re not going anywhere,” Raborn said of he and his wife, Ann. “It was just time.”
Raborn added that he has no concrete plans on what he wants to do in retirement. “I’m looking at this as a sabbatical.”
It will be up to the mayor and city council what route they will take in trying to find Raborn’s replacement.
Here’s a copy of a note Raborn sent to city staff Tuesday:
“After over 29 amazing years with the City of La Grange, I am happy to announce that I will be retiring from my position as City Manager in September of this year. During my career here, I have made La Grange my home and the employees of the City of La Grange an extension of my family. Ann and I have raised our family here and established friendships that will last a lifetime. My tenure could not have taken place without your hard work and dedication to this organization. I also want to thank all the council members and mayors I have had the pleasure of working with through the years for allowing me to serve this great community. As Ann and I begin to write the next chapter of our lives, La Grange will remain our home. Thank you again for supporting me and helping me make almost three decades working for this city a true gift.”
