Conservative vs. Liberal in 2024
With so many issues deeply dividing our country, this election year could not be more important for the future of our nation. The differences are between republicans and democrats, or conservatives and liberals, or right wing and left wing. The differences are so drastic because the mindsets and worldviews of these two groups are on opposite ends of the spectrum.
A true conservative is rooted in the Word of God and “conserves” the Bible as the foundation and go-to source for determining what is right and wrong, and what is good and evil. He knows that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16) He understands that Satan, the world around us, and our sinful self will lead us to put ourselves first, which usually means going against what the Bible teaches. He understands that to follow Jesus we must deny ourselves of our sinful desires…“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)
A liberal is rooted in self and chooses to be “liberated” from anything that conflicts with personal opinions, thoughts, and feelings. Selfish desires are the foundation for determining relative right and wrong for each individual. In this worldview, the Bible is either just reference material to be subjectively interpreted any way chosen, or is just irrelevant altogether
Some immensely polarizing issues are abortion, homosexuality, transgender, and even climate change. Why? Because the conservative looks to the Bible, while the liberal looks to self
On the issue of abortion, a conservative knows and acknowledges every person is formed by God in the womb, regardless of how the pregnancy came about. When God said “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…” (Jeremiah 1:5), that applied to every person, not just those that were “planned,” as he takes into account man’s sins. A conservative knows that obedience to God and His word is always the right thing to do and will deny himself of any temptations to justify or rationalize the killing of God’s creation, with the exception of justified medical necessity. He knows that the blessings that will result from that selfless sacrifice and obedience will be the opposite of the lifelong repercussions of an abortion
In an unplanned pregnancy, the goal of the liberal is to satisfy personal desires and not allow anything to disrupt personal plans. Since there is no denying that murder is wrong, then it must be denied that murder is taking place. The most popular current rationalization is to say the fetus is just a part of the reproductive system, instead of the child God produced from the reproductive system. God’s Word is totally ignored to pursue personal desires and plans.
On the issue of homosexality, a conservative knows that there are two types of “natural.” There is the way of God’s intended “natural” order, like his creation of male and female, and the marital union of a man and a woman. And then there is the “natural” desires that stem from our very sinful “nature” that can and will produce all sorts of perversions that are an abomination to God. He knows that he must deny himself of any tendencies he might have to same-sex relationships. He knows the Bible’s many passages about this. One is “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie… Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.” (Romans 1:25-27) He knows that whatever sacrifices and efforts he must endure are just temporary for the short lives we live, and the reward for obedience is eternal. The Bible makes this very clear… “…those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” (Galatians 5:24) And… “For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” (Galatians 6:8)
For the liberal, any homosexual desires stemming from the sinful nature, are pursued and defended because self is first. The conservative and liberal mindsets described above are the same for transexual issues
On climate change, liberals are worried that this is an issue that is going to eventually destroy our world as we know it. Conservatives, while understanding the importance of being good stewards of the earth, trust God’s Word and know that Bible prophecy describes what will eventually happen, regardless of what the climate does
The truth is, all of us are born as liberals. Without exception, everyone is born with a sinful, selfish nature, and naturally opposes God’s sovereignty and authority. The Bible makes this clear. “I was shaped in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” (Psalm 51:5) and “…the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth.” (Genesis 8:21)
Every person was created with a free will to choose what they will do with what is revealed to them. God will transform the hearts and minds of those who choose to genuinely seek Him. This is often referred to as being “born again,” and results in a regenerated mind
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)
The incredibly good news is that God’s mercy and love has no limit, and no matter what you may have done or not done in the past, He is always willing to completely forgive you if you will seek Him. Jesus died on the cross to completely pay for all of your sins - past, present, and future, and it is never too late to repent of sin and accept Him as your personal Lord and savior. The thief that hung on the cross next to Jesus had lived a very sinful life and had even mocked Jesus just hours earlier. But just before he died, he turned to Jesus and said “Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” (Luke 23:42) Then Jesus, knowing that this was a genuine profession of faith and confession, told him “Assuredly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43)
Is Jesus conservative or liberal? He is the ultimate conservative and is who all right wing is based on. He is what this country was founded on. He is the ultimate answer to all issues and problems. “…All things were created through Him and for Him.” (Colossians 1:16)
Are you conservative or liberal? Will you be a part of the unbelievable insanity that has been brought upon this country over the past three years, or part of the solution in 2024? God gave you a free will to choose. What will that choice be? Will you choose to surrender to Him, or will you choose to remain in the world? “ …choose this day whom you will serve, …as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)
