Lance Herrington, owner of the Timeless Texas Classics auto dealership on SH 71 east of La Grange, brought two sacks of garbage to the Fayette County Commissioners Court meeting last Thursday. Inside the bags were labels and marketing materials for Yellawood treated lumber destined for sale at Home Depot stores.

For at least 48 hours last week Melinda Dunk’s cat Marsha was trapped in the top of a massive cedar tree near at their neighbors’ house (appropriately those neighbors are the Branch family) east of La Grange.

Schulenburg & Weimar Host Autism Acceptance Games

On Tuesday, March 22, Schulenburg softball hosted their Turtle Wing game in Schulenburg, and Emma Kubala threw out the first pitch. Weimar softball also hosted their Turtle Wing game in Weimar, and Wesley Morgan threw out the first pitch. Play Ball!

Over 300 players and 50 volunteers are part of La Grange Little League program, and many of them came out Saturday morning for opening ceremonies at the fairgrounds softball fields. All the teams and coaches were introduced as the players processed onto the field. Then most of the teams held their first games throughout the rest of the day.
Big Water Line Break in Fayetteville

The City of Fayetteville lost water pressure Wednesday afternoon after a six-inch water line burst under SH 159. The incident happened around 1:50 p.m., according to Fayetteville Mayor Mike Stroup. Stroup said a fire hydrant was being tested when the pipe burst, but he was unsure whether that caused the line failure. Stroup said the City was hoping to restore water service by the end of the day on Wednesday. He said the City would be placed under a boil water notice that could last a few days. The incident happened at a most inopportune time. Stroup said the town’s lodging establishments were booked with shoppers for the Spring Antiques Show.
Mikula Calls it a Career After 25 Years at LG HEB

Paul Mikula, Store Leader at the La Grange HEB, celebrated his final day of work at the store Tuesday, March 22, capping off a 25-year career there. Co-workers celebrated Mikula with a barbeque and fried chicken lunch, cake, confetti, and they also covered him with silly string.

However in this case it might be like son, like father since Ben jumped in last year’s skydiving fundraiser.
Leps Clinch District Title

The La Grange Leopards soccer team defeated Caldwell March 11 on the road, 1-0, to finish as outright district champs. The lone goal was scored by Jesus Soto. The team has not lost a game in regulation since Jan. 15. Their district record is 10-2-0 and overall record is 15-6-2.

Kolt Discovers Meth in Gas Tank

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Friday March 11, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a Silver Ford F-150 on IH-10 at approximately 9:30 a.m. for a traffic violation. “After speaking to the driver many indicators of narcotics trafficking were observed and consent to search the vehicle was obtained,” the report said. Thumann deployed Kolt to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Thumann observed Kolt alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics. Thumann discovered the vehicles gas tank had been altered to conceal narcotics. After accessing the compartment in the gas tank, Thumann located approximately 211.4 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $ 3,830,130. The driver, Marcial Ramirez, 49 of Del Rio was arrested for felony possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
Carmine Citizens Pack Council Chamber Over Water Concerns

A standing room only crowd attended the Carmine City Council meeting on Monday, March 14, to hear about the City’s plan to supply water to a proposed development on Fuchs Road. Developer Dirk Winter proposes to develop a 150-acre tract on Fuchs Road into a resort that could eventually include 100 rental duplexes along with commercial spaces.
Roadside Trash Called a Local Embarrassment

County Judge Joe Weber wants to clean up Fayette County. “We have a tremendous amount of trash in this county,” Weber said.

Lady Ducks Beat LG To Stay in First Place

The Taylor girls came to La Grange and all but mathematically clinched the district basketball title Tuesday with a 52-38 win over the second place Lady Leps. The victory vaults the Lady Ducks to 9-0 in district while La Grange fell to 6-2 in district and 16-10 overall.
