Driver Gets DWI After Nearly Crashing into House on July 4

The impact snapped some of the barricade poles off at the ground and sent them flying, breaking a window of the house.

A Plantersville man took a trip to jail after wrecking his car and nearly crashing into a house in Schulenburg Saturday night, July 4.

According to a report from Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek, 25-year-old Dalton Slatter of Plantersville was driving south on FM 2672 in a 2019 Acura MDX. Brenek said Slatter failed to stop at the Summit Street (US 90) intersection.

The Acura went across the highway and crashed into a metal pipe barrier protecting the home at 1818 W. Summit. Part of the barrier snapped off at the ground and broke one of the home’s windows. The barrier stopped the car, however, and it did not run into the house.

Police were notified around 11:56 p.m. Schulenburg Police Sgt. Tobey McFadden and Officer Rusty Roggenkamp responded to the wreck. The officers arrested Slatter for driving while intoxicated and transported him to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange.

Brenek said Slatter had a blood alcohol concentration greater than 0.15, which enhanced the crime to a Class A misdemeanor. The Chief said Slatter had attended a wedding in High Hill before the crash.
