Lady Horns Tourney Runner-Ups

The Schulenburg volleyball team improved its record to 13-12 overall after a runnerup finish in the Gold Bracket at the Goliad/Cuero Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Horns beat Beeville Jones and Three Rivers in bracket play before falling to Cuero and Goliad.

Lady Leps Shine in Athens

The La Grange volleyball team won its final four matches at the Athens Tournament to win the Silver Bracket title at the tourney. The Lady Leps are now 11-14 overall and play at Bellville Tuesday in a dual match against the Lady Brahmas and Brenham.

1973: Lightning Kills Cattle & Damages Hay Shed

A bolt of lightning killed a large bull, three cows and two calves and knocked off the corner of a hay shed at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Joe Marek place at Willow Springs. The Mareks estimated the loss at $2,500. However, the nearby Marek home and country store escaped damage in the storm in which about an inch of rain fell.
