KJZT Family Life Society Holds Quarterly Social
On Aug. 21, the third quarterly social of Society No. 31 of La Grange, St. Frances of Rome, KJZT Family Life was held at 4 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church Narthex meeting room.
President Elizabeth Kallus called the meeting to order and led opening prayers especially remembering two members who had passed away since the May social, Kay Karstedt and Hattie Hlavinka. The patroness of the Fraternal is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her feast day was August 15, so additional prayers for the Fraternal were prayed. Pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags were recited.
Reading of the May 15 social minutes were dispensed, treasurer Barbara Eilert filed her report, a bill was approved for payment, and thank you cards were read.
Secretary Marilyn Kothmann read correspondence from the KJZT State Office that included a reminder to follow KJZT Family Life on Facebook and Instagram.
KJZT Clerical Endowment Fund enrollments report was given by Vice President Joy Kovar and showed two special birthdays, one special gift, three sympathies by Society No. 31, and thirty enrollments by individuals. One cheer card was sent. Kallus gave the publicity and KJZT Traveling Unity Rosary reports.
Unfinished business: A fundraiser letter will be sent to all members in September.
New business discussed: The Annual Social for the Society will be Monday, Nov. 13, beginning at 4 p.m. with a brief meeting followed by dinner at Sealand in La Grange.
Discussed and approved were clergy Christmas presents for 2023, the 2023 Community project of a donation to the La Grange Fire Department, and People Helping People projects for 2024, namely Catholic Schools Week (January 28-February 3) and Sacred Heart School Spring Festival plant wheel booth on March 24. Also, 2024 social dates were tentatively set for Feb. 19, May 20, Aug. 19, and Nov. 18 .
Society No. 31 will be hosting the Annual District V Social in 2024 and a discussion was held on various dates and times.
District IV and V State Director Joy Kovar said KJZT has many fraternal benefits for families and annuity rates are going up Sept. 1.
Attendance prize was won by Marilyn Kothmann and the meeting closed with the Memorare Prayer.
