It didn’t last long, however. “Spring is here, until tomorrow,” McKee said. A strong front blanketed the county with frost the next day.

In the listings of positions up for election on the La Grange City Council in Friday’s paper we listed only four of the spots. There are five up for re-election. The offices up for election are as follows (the current officeholders are in parentheses):

Umpire Meeting The Tri-County Softball Umpire Association will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m.

Local voters will get several opportunities over the next few weeks to meet the candidates running for county offices. The Fayette County Republican Party announced four upcoming forums: Jan.

The Juneteenth Committee is pleased to announce the Martin Luther King Jr. Day program on Monday, Jan. 17. Those who are able will meet at the Fayette County Courthouse grounds at noon and walk in solidarity to the Fayette Public Library Gazebo for a short ceremony. The program will feature music by Debra Stewart as well as words from Mayor Jan Dockery and Marie Watts, local writer and historian. The group will then move to the N.W. Faison House across the street to learn about its African American history. All members of the community are encouraged to attend.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Jan. 5, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Undercover Narcotics Unit received an anonymous tip about narcotics activity at the Cottonwood Inn Motel in La Grange. An investigation was conducted and the information was validated.

For sale signs went back up in the windows of the downtown Prause Meat Market a few days ago. The iconic market has been closed since mid-2020, but was purchased by the Hinojosa family who had overseen some renovation work, targeting a mid-2021 reopening. That never happened and now the still-under-construction market has been put back up for sale. The price tag? $475,000.

Weimar Police arrested a local man for aggravated robbery Thursday morning, Jan. 6.

Cecil Scholten, the La Grange HEB worker who suffered a massive heart attack in the store Dec. 17, has continued his recovery after waking from a coma on Christmas Eve.

The active number of local COVID cases continues to climb rapidly. As of Sunday there were 242 active cases of COVID in Fayette County, roughly triple the number of cases from just one week before.
