Umpire Meeting
The Tri-County Softball Umpire Association will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hallettsville ISD Boardroom. Anyone interested in umpiring is encouraged to attend. American Legion
The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. Member attendance is encouraged and new potential members are welcome to attend. The Auxiliary will give a report on their annual Christmas Veterans’ donations and visits. A light meal will be served following the meeting.
Estate Planning
The Round Top Family Library Estate Planning Series will begin at 7 p.m. at the Rummel Haus on Jan. 12 with Norman T. Reynolds Law Firm P.C. Local Log Cabin Lawyer Estate Planning Basics, Wills, Trusts & Probate; Jan. 19 with Norman T. Reynolds Law Firm P.C. Local Log Cabin Lawyer Estate Planning Question & Answer; and Jan. 26 with Heather Schoenst Kaspar, BAS, CAI, GRI, SRES Buck Up Auctions & Realty with an open discussion regarding the dispersal of real and personal property in estate situations. Round Top Family Library is located at 206 W. Mill St. in Round Top. The program is free.
Garbage Schedule
La Grange City offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Waste Management will be working their normal garbage and recycle schedule. If you need additional information, call (979) 968-3127.
Fayette County Democratic Party
The Fayette County Democratic Party monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. The guest speaker will be Mike Collier, candidate for Texas Lt. Governor. Sages and Saints
The Sages and Saints group at the First United Methodist Church invite those mature adults age 50 and older to join on Jan. 13 for “Movie Night” at the Fellowship hall. “The Chosen” chapters 1 and 2 will be shown with hotdogs, popcorn and soft drinks beginning at 5 p.m. You may bring a comfortable lawn chair or chairs will be available.
Chili Cook Off In Round Top
At noon on Saturday, Jan. 15, the Round Top Family Library will host its 17th Annual Red Hot Chili Cook Off at The Stone Cellar in Round Top with performance by the Black Cat Choir. If you would like to cook, pick up an application at the library front desk or apply online at www.ilovetoread.org. Admission is $10, kids under 12 are free. All proceeds benefit the Library.
Championship Domino Tournament
The 70th Texas State Championship Domino tournament will be held Sunday, Jan. 16 at the K of C Hall in Hallettsville. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and play will begin at 9 a.m. A barbecue chicken dinner will also be served in the Hall for players and spectators. MLK Unity Walk and Program
The Juneteenth Committee welcomes all community members to join them on Monday, Jan. 17 in honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. At noon, the group will walk from the Fayette County Courthouse to the Fayette Public Library Gazebo as a show of unity. A short program will begin at 12:30 p.m. Afterwards, the group will gather at the N.W. Faison House across the street to learn about its African American history.
Vietnam Veterans Meeting
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
Wild Game Supper
Enjoy the the Hallettsville KC Wild Game Supper, big gun and ranger drawing and big buck contest along with merchant booths on Friday, Jan. 21 at the K of C Hall in Hallettsville. Doors open at 5 p.m. and supper served from 5:30 until 11 p.m. Admission to the hall is $12, the wild game supper is free with hall admission. For information call (361) 798-2311.
Homemade Turkey Stew
The Waldeck Lutheran Church homemade turkey stew sale will be held Jan. 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $20/half gallon or $30/gallon. Bring a pot or glass container. No plastic containers. Beginner Cha Cha Classes
Beginner Cha Cha classes will be starting Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 5:45 until 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per class/per person. Come enjoy the fun for a free open house introduction on Jan. 18. LGISD Gifted & Talented Nominations
La Grange ISD is taking nominations for the Gifted and Talented program for the 2022-2023 school year. The Talent Pool and LEAP programs are designed to provide additional challenge and stimulation for academically talented students. Parents, teachers, and community members may nominate students currently enrolled in LGISD in 1st through 11th grade to participate in the screening process to determine eligibility for the gifted program. Nomination forms are available in the office on each LGISD campus or on the La Grange ISD website. All nominations are due by Feb. 1.
