A new 2024-2025 Lunch and Learn series called “Resources for Successful Living” will start Sept. 17. This monthly event will be held on the third Tuesday of every month from 12:05 - 12:50 p.m., except Dec. and Jan.. The program will be held at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane, Room 104 in La Grange. The Fayette County Committee on Aging along with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Fayette County will be hosting the monthly events which will provide resources and education for successful everyday living.

The Fayette County Elections Office announced the following voter information for the Nov. 5 Presidential Election.

Representative Stan Kitzman was appointed to the Sunset Advisory Commission by the Texas Speaker of the House Dade Phelan effective immediately. The Sunset Commission reviews state agencies due to be abolished by the Texas Sunset Act and submits a report of findings with recommendations.

The new La Grange City Manager, Jack Thompson, has some big plans for economic development in La Grange. During a budget workshop with the City Council on Monday, Thompson said the La Grange Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is “going full aggression after retail and tourism.” Thompson said attracting new businesses to town will be the major focus for the EDC moving forward.

Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department battled a house fire on Baumgarten St. last Wednesday, Aug.

The Lee County Commissioners Court voted last Monday to deny a tax abatement for a battery storage project there. Their vote comes just ahead of a tax abatement hearing by the Fayette County Commissioners Court later this week for a battery storage project in Warda.

Johnny and Linda Oviedo have been named the Parade Marshals for this year’s Fayette County Fair Parade, which will begin August 31 at 10:30 a.m. in downtown La Grange.

A standing-room-only crowd packed the hall at the Warda Picnic Grounds Thursday for a meeting over a proposed battery storage facility. Most of the speakers at the meeting were strongly opposed to the battery storage facility, and especially any tax abatement for it.

The 169th annual Praha Picnic took place on Aug. 15, as it does every year, on the Feast Day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year it fell on a Thursday. But that didn’t keep many people away. A huge crowd showed up to enjoy a lunch of fried chicken and Praha’s famous beef stew (far right). The Ennis Czech Boys, Texas Sound Check and the Lost Cause Band provided music throughout the day for dancing (right).
