Lutherhill Dedicates New Retreat Center
Lutherhill Ministries of La Grange held a dedication for its new retreat center on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The new facility provides a meeting space and overnight accommodations for groups of up to 24 people.
“We want it to be a place for folks to come out and get away from the normal of life and dream about whatever they’re doing and think about it in a new way,” said Matt Kindsvatter, executive director of Lutherhill. “We provide the hospitality and the space for them to do that.”
Lots of folks know about Lutherhill’s summer camp programs that attract youth from all of the country. But the organization aims to serve people of all ages. It even says so in its mission statement: “A Ministry For All People Of Every Generation To Experience The Love Of Christ In Unique Settings And New Ways.”
What started in 1954 as a summer camp has grown tremendously. The campus now includes a beautiful wedding chapel that overlooks one of the incredible views in Fayette County. Kindsvatter said Lutherhill wants to reach more people of different generations – families, business and industry groups, church groups. But prior to completion of this new facility, about 95 percent of their overnight accommodations were bunk beds.
“We’ve already had some bible studies, family reunions, and a corporate retreat out here,” Kindsvatter said. “We have some upcoming events family retreats, church leadership, business leadership.”
The new retreat centers features 12 rooms with double queen beds and a private bath. The floor-to-ceiling windows in each room provide an incredible view of the wooded meadow that surrounds the building.
Clients can book the retreat center by itself, but Lutherhill can also provide team building exercises, a high ropes course, pool, and other activities.
“It’s a new ministry for us, for us to be able to provide this,” Kindsvatter said. “It’s been a dream for the leadership and the folks here at the camp for years. It’s finally come to fruition.”
