Round Top-Carmine ISD held a special election seeking voter approval for a 2.8 percent increase to the district’s maintenance and operations (M&O) tax rate. Voters approved the proposition by more than 75 percent. The count was 963 in favor versus 310 against.

On Saturday, October 26th, Dr. Larry Hatfield, DDS, of La Grange, was awarded a Diplomate degree from the International Academy of Sleep (IAOS) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His award comes after successfully completing a rigorous year’s long program in Dental Sleep Medicine focused on the comprehensive treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

The 10th annual free community-wide Halloween party at the Red & White Gallery was the biggest ever, with a large group of costumed adults giving out treats to over 300 children. Fayetteville’s Historic Square is an ideal location for a family night out, and with perfect weather, the turnout was far more than expected. Every year the party proves to be as much fun for the adults as it is for the trick-or-treaters, many of whom are brought in from the surrounding area hay-riding on trailers. This year, even with copious amounts of candy brought to the event, the group had to ration out the treats at the end to keep the last treat-or-treaters happy.

Fayette County 4-H members competed in the Brazos Valley Livestock Judging Contest on Friday, Oct. 18.

La Grange Main Street and the Fayette Community Foundation held a dedication for the new mural on the side of the Meservey Financial Services building in downtown La Grange. Artist Avery Orendorf with assistance from Sullivan Merservey painted the mural, which depicts a flora motif. The mural was paid for with funds from the City’s mural grant program along with matching funds from the Fayette Community Foundation.

According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective services, “when children can’t live safely at home, CPS tries to find relatives and family friends who can provide stability while the children can’t live with their parents. If no one can be found, the court can give temporary legal custody to CPS, who then places the children in foster care.” In the state of Texas during the month of September, there were 9,796 children aged 0-17 in foster care. There are often not enough foster families in a county to place the children locally.

Election results are in and Donald Trump will be the next President of the United States. The Trump/Vance ticket carried Texas with 56.26 percent of the vote.
