Old West Comes to Town

The first true Western ever done by the Fayette County Community Theatre will be performed this weekend at the Fair Pavilion in La Grange at the Fayette County Fairgrounds. Director Kyle Hartmann and assistant director Will Martin are bringing “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” to the stage with an all-local cast Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. The play is based on the 1962 Western of the same name that starred John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart, but this play has some difference from the movie. Here’s a short description: “A young scholar from New York City travels west in search of a new life. He arrives beaten and half-dead on the dusty streets of Twotrees. Rescued from the plains, the town soon becomes his home as he finds the love of a local woman. This love gives him purpose in a broken land, but is it enough to save him from the vicious outlaw who wants him dead? This play is a classic western, a tale of good versus evil.” Tickets are available online at fayettecountycommunitytheatre.com or at the downtown box office at 120 S. Washington St. in La Grange Tuesday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the door if the event does not sell out.
