New Bridge Work Has Stopped in LG Because of Material Shortages

The Texas Department of Transportation cited supply chain issues as the reason for a work stoppage on the Business 71 bridge project in La Grange.

Work on the bridge came to a stop several weeks ago.

“The Contractor is working on an issue with his supply order,” said TxDOT spokesperson Lucean Kuykendall. “The material has all been ordered but delivery dates have been extended and they are currently working to rectify that situation now.”

Kuykendall did not know when work would resume.

“At this time I do not have a definite answer on when work will begin again,” Kuykendall said. “It will depend on the material delivery date but we are hopeful that will be soon so that work can proceed.”

The work stoppage in La Grange comes amid a nationwide supply chain crisis fueled by a lack of workers and other effects of the COVID-19 pandemic response.

Chris Spear, President and CEO of the American Trucking Associations, said last week that the nation needs 80,000 more truck drivers to meet shipping demands.
