Local Hoops Teams Grab Important District Wins

The ‘Other’ Bridge Construction

Crews and contractors with Union Pacific replaced the approach to the old railroad bridge across the Colorado River in La Grange on Wednesday, Dec. 15. The work took place during an 18-hour traffic shutdown on Wednesday. Workers had spent weeks prior replacing the old wooden trestles with steel framework. They used heavy equipment including a large red crane to set concrete girders in place on Wednesday. The old steel truss that comprises the middle section of the bridge will remain in place. A plaque on the steel truss states that it was built in 1906. The worksite on the west bank of the Colorado sits on land owned by Stanley and Virginia Ohnheiser. Ice Skating in LG

Folks came from far and wide to enjoy ice skating hosted by the City of La Grange at the Rec Center over the weekend was a big hit. Little Leps Finish Season in Super Bowl

The La Grange youth football freshman team ended their season losing in the Super Bowl championship game versus Columbus Cardinals in a nail biter, 20-14 Nov. 20 in Sealy. Coaches were John Price, Buck Williams, Dvonte Daniels, Trae Scott. Players were Julius Williams, Ajay Shepert, Ryan Urps, Christian Britton, Austin and Waylon Hayes, Bronx Scott, Kye Daniels, Bowen Williams, Crew Price, Madden McKenzie, Keyonn Garner, and Brayden Cuevas. Cheerleaders: Zoe Johnson, Erika Luna, Callie Clark and Maliyah Garner.

Fayette County EMS has seen a record number of calls this year. EMS Director Josh Vandever said call volume increased from 3,500 at this time last year to one call shy of 3,900 this year.

First Presbyterian Church to Present Christmas Cantata

The First Presbyterian Church of La Grange, under the musical direction of Laura Gillette, will present a Christmas cantata titled “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus” Sunday, Dec. 19 during worship beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Leps Beat Cuero

More than two weeks into their regular season, the La Grange boys basketball team finally made their home debut Tuesday. In a battle between a pair of short-handed squads, the Leps dominated Cuero 50-36 as La Grange improved to 4-4 overall.
Flatonia Boys Stay Undefeated

Keyshaun Green scored 33 and Luke Law added 19 as the Flatonia boys basketball team stayed undefeated Tuesday, defeating Snook 80-58. The Bulldogs are 7-0 and host their home tournament this week.
LHS Swimmers Make Splash at Texas Invitational

The La Grange High School swim team traveled to Keller Dec. 3 and 4 to swim in the 2021 Texas 4A & Under Invitational. Competing against 17 other teams eight La Grange swimmers placed in the top 16 qualifying to swim on Saturday in the finals. All six of the La Grange relays also qualified to swim in the finals. The team brought home 18 ribbons total.
Round Top Parade Winners Announced

The holiday tradition continued this year with many locals and visitors welcoming Christmas to Round Top on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Lady Ducks Beat LG To Stay in First Place

The Taylor girls came to La Grange and all but mathematically clinched the district basketball title Tuesday with a 52-38 win over the second place Lady Leps. The victory vaults the Lady Ducks to 9-0 in district while La Grange fell to 6-2 in district and 16-10 overall.

It’s now a dozen wins in a row for the surging La Grange boys basketball team. The Leps welcomed Taylor to La Grange Tuesday by bashing the Ducks 64-46.

Shelter Has 87 Animals In Care

As of Jan. 19, the total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 61: 28 dogs and 33 cats in need. As of Jan. 19, the shelter has 87 animals in care: 47 dogs/40 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.
