It was a tragic start to the season for La Grange’s J.K. Dobbins as he tore his Achilles tendon in the first game of the season Sunday as his Baltimore Ravens beat the Houston Texans 25-9.
A big, physical La Vernia football team was in no mood to take it easy on a La Grange team still trying to find its way. The Bears blasted the visting Leps 45-0 Friday to stay unbeaten, while the Leps are still winless in three tries this season.

La Grange junior football player Le’Kayvion Broussard is a running back who’s been a workhorse to start the season. In last Friday’s game against Columbus, he carried the ball 24 times for 78 yards and a touchdown to go along with 13 receptions for 77 yards.
The Fayetteville volleyball team defeated visiting Flatonia Tuesday in five sets. Fayetteville won the oddnumbered sets, culminating with a 20-18 thriller in set five.
The Flatonia volleyball team played at Hallettsville Friday with the varsity losing in four sets 25-22, 23-25, 19-25, 16-25. Flatonia stat leaders included: Aces: Sadie Noska, Aubree Mikulenka and Katelin Sullivan all had two aces each.
The Fayetteville volleyball team defeated Faith Academy Friday 25-23, 2517, 25-13 as the Lady Lions improved to 9-16 overall. Kayme Schley had 11 kills, Lainey Gromaski had seven, Tara Vitek had six and Peyton Jurecka had five.
The Schulenburg Shorthorns had one heck of a second quarter Friday. But the other three quarters were lackluster and Rogers beat Schulenburg 44-23 in the Shorthorns’ home opener.
