Schulenburg football player Aaron Janecek is the starting quarterback for the Shorthorns and had himself a game in Schulenburg’s first win of the season over Burton High School with a score of 35-21, snapping Schulenburg’s 13game losing skid.

When district starts, the La Grange volleyball team always comes to play. After an up-and-down preseason, the three-time defending co-district champ La Grange volleyball team began District 22-4A play Tuesday and beat Smithville 25-22, 2515, 18-25, 27-25.

The Flatonia Bulldogs orchestrated a second half comeback to beat Nixon-Smiley 21-14 on homecoming night in Flatonia. The Bulldogs trailed 14-7 at halftime, but the Flatonia defense held Nixon-Smiley scoreless in the second half.

The Schulenburg football team snapped a 13-game losing streak that dated back to 2021 – and they did it against a team that went 13-1 last season. The Shorthorns beat Burton 35-21 Friday for new head coach Luke Hobbs’ first victory at the school.

Standouts on the defense were Gabriel Friemel and Hunter Melton who both had several big play tackles. Special teams standout was Aiden Bennett with a couple of big kick off returns. Offensive standouts were the offensive line consisting of Andrew Spoelstra, Jesus Ibarra, Reece Benford, Rylan Graham, Ryder Brock, Lukas Harkrider, and Sebastian Pimentel.

La Grange Rolls The La Grange varsity volleyball team is heading into district with some momentum. The Lady Leps defeated visiting Thorndale Friday 25-17, 25-12, 23-25, 25-19 to improve their record to 12-18 overall.

For the first time this season we have a winner in our reader pick-it contest as Jason Vela correctly navigated a weekend of upsets to win the $300 prize. Several people were eliminated by the Schulenburg and UT wins and the Texas A&M loss. We will try to get a picture of Vela getting his prize money from Alpha One to run in Friday’s edition.
