The La Grange volleyball team finished out the first half of district play strong, smashing Manor New Tech 25-7, 25-13, 25-16 Friday night at home.

The victory improved the Lady Leps’ overall record to 15-21 and evened their district mark at 3-3. La Grange is in fourth place in District 22-4A and will play each of the district teams one more time before the postseason.

The top four teams in the district advance to the playoffs.

Kylie Trlicek led the Lady Leps in kills with 12 and Tori Harold had eight.

“It feels good to get a win and it feels good to be a part of it after being out the first half of the season with an injury,” Harold said.

“We have things to work on but it will all fall into place as long as we work together. We’re moving in a good direction.”

The Lady Leps were without a key starter, Carley Ulrich, who injured her ankle earlier in the week against Giddings, but she is expected back as the Lady Leps head to Smithville Friday to begin the second round of district.

“She was begging to get out here tonight,” Coltrain said of Ulrich. “I liked that even without our kill leader we could still produce. I think everyone who played in the game tallied a kill and that was nice.”

Jena Jobb led in digs with eight. Haylie Cooper had seven and Mara Colon had six.

Trlicek and Jobb each had three aces.

Phoebe Tucker led in assists with 18 and Trlicek had 11.

Cara Homer had two blocks.

Being in fourth place is an unfamiliar position for a La Grange team that has been co-district champs each of the last three years, but Coltrain is optimistic her team will finish district strong.

“Now we know what it’s going to take in the second round of district,” Coltrain said. “We’ve seen everybody and we know what we need to work on, and what we need to clean up.”

In subvarsity action Friday the La Grange JV defeated Manor New Tech 25-13, 25-13 to improve to 4-2 in district and 13-9 overall.
