The Colorado River 100k was held Saturday Sept. 12 as solo kayakers and tandem and solo canoeists raced from Bastrop to La Grange.

The La Grange girls volleyball team defeated Brookshire Royal on the road Tuesday 25-9, 25-16, 25-9. The Lady Leps are now 16-11 overall and 3-2 in district and host Sealy at 5 p.m.

The La Grange High School cross country program delivered impressive performances on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Coach Ed Cross Country Invitational in Sealy. Running against tough regional competition, the Leopards posted notable individual results in both the Varsity Girls’ 3200-meter run and the Varsity Boys’ 5000-meter run and a 4th place team finish in the Varsity Girls division.

It’s been a slow start to the NFL season for La Grange native J.K. Dobbins, who had 36 yards rushing in the season opening loss to Kansas City, and then had 36 more in last week’s win over Jacksonville, before leaving the game with leg cramps.

On August 22, 2026, Columbus Chapter 1127 of the Vietnam Veterans of America held a fundraising Clay Shoot at the Fayette County Gun Club. The event is called “Shoot with the Vets” The funds raised are used for scholarships and helping needy vets. At the May 1-3, 2026, Texas Council State VVA meeting in Tyler Texas out of the 35 Texas chapters, Columbus Chapter 1127 was the number one in total awarded scholarships and amounts given thanks to the support of our local sponsors. Caden and William Herzik, who attend Schulenburg High School, both earned 3rd place finishes at the 2026 RSPA (Racquet Sports Professionals Association) Texas Junior Gran Prix State Championships held at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels September 12-13th.. Caden placed 3rd in the 18 division and William placed 3rd in the 14 division. Their team also earned the A.C.E.(Attitude, Conviviality, & Effort) Sportsmanship Award for the first time in over 20 years. This highly respected two day tournament included five teams from: San Antonio, Austin, Midland, Fort Worth, and East Texas with each team bringing two finalists in each age group (16 per team) for a total of 80 players registered in their flight. The RSPA is the new name for the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). Past players from this tournament have advanced onward to play as wildcard players at the US Open. Out of 100+ entries in last week’s reader pick-it contest only one person, Joseph Spacek, correctly predicted Kentucky’s win over Texas A&M. But Joseph was tripped up by some other outcomes, so there was no winner in last week’s $200 football jackpot.

• The La Grange volleyball team evened their district record at 2-2 with a four set victory Friday at Navasota. The Lady Leps (14-12 overall) continue their roadheavy early part of district play Tuesday when they play at Brookshire.

In the historic 100th meeting between La Grange and Smithville football teams, the Leopards dominated the Tigers in every way possible to run away with a 66-6 victory Friday night.

Weimar beat Schulenburg 48-7 Friday in this battle of historic Interstate-10 rivals. Weimar (3-1) came into the game as a big favorite against winless Schulenburg, but Nick Goode recovered a fumble in the endzone for the Shorthorns for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7 late in the first quarter.
