Hide No Hair: Barbers/Salons are Back

The sound of clippers buzzing through hair once again spilled out of the doorway at 237 W. Travis Street last Friday, the site of Ken’s Barber Shop on the La Grange Courthouse Square. Inside, barbers Ken Jurecka and Floyd Weishuhn worked on a pair of customers who’ve waited nearly two months for a trim. Another customer waited outside the door.

What Could Go Wrong?

In 1951 my dad was in the house moving business. He also farmed cotton, corn and hay for his 100 cow herd. He never acquired a large cattle trailer with which to haul his cattle to market. All he had was a one axle 4x8 ft. wooden enclosed trailer that could only haul two cows or maybe four calves at one time.

Tomato Penance

I don’t grow tomatoes to feed my family. That’s what potatoes, beans and squash are for. Sure, we eat some tomatoes, but the reason I grow them has more to do with penance or self-punishment, I think.
