Rachel Steinhauser Graduates from A&M

Rachel Caroline Steinhauser graduated from Texas A&M University, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis on Math and Sciences degree. Rachel will conclude graduate school in August of 2021 and begin a teaching career. Rachel is the daughter of Judge Jeff and Stephanie Steinhauser of Flatonia.

Katherine Perales Picked For NASA Summer Program

La Grange High School junior Katherine Perales has been invited to participate in NASA’s Texas High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) virtual summer program. She applied to the program in the fall of 2019 and after being accepted she began completing numerous requirements during the fall and spring semesters.

Republican Women Award 2020 Scholarships

This year Fayette County Republican Women (FCRW) offered $1,000 scholarships to graduating, college-bound senior girls at each of the five Fayette County high schools. Karen Jacobs has been putting together a community wide yard sale. She is planning it for Friday and Saturday June 5-6 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. each day. The event is open to all who want to come and setup and sell all the things they have to peddle after cleaning out while at home so long. Flatonia ISD to Open the Bid Process for Artificial Turf Project at Football Stadium

Flatonia ISD will soon begin replacing the natural grass on its football field with artificial turf. Dr. Andy Reddock, the school superintendent, said the district will open bids for the project next week. He estimated the cost at $750,000 to $850,000.

St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg announced the Top Reader for the 2019-2020 School Year. Congratulations goes out to Reagan Dusek, daughter of Renee and Michael Dusek. Reagan is a 6th grader and earned a total of 535.9 AR points for the year.

Colorado Valley Telephone Awards $60,000 In Local Scholarships

Colorado Valley Telephone Cooperative, Inc. recently awarded $60,000 in scholarships to twelve graduating seniors from eight area high schools. Each student received a $5,000 scholarship.

House Fire on Valenta Road

Deputy Ken Kretz along with La Grange VFD and EMS Medic 3 responded to Valenta Rd. for a single story house fire. The call came in to 911 around 9 a.m. No one was at home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries, but the home was a total loss. Deputy Kretz requested that Red Cross respond to the scene to help the family.

St. Rose Students Place In Tri-County Contest

The Navidad Valley Cattlewomen recently held a Father’s Day essay contest in which 6th graders from Fayette, Lavaca and Colorado Counties could enter. Ledbetter Fire Quickly Contained

Around 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, a structure fire involving a building used to store hay was reported East of Deer Haven Road on US Highway 290 in the Ledbetter area. Fayette County Deputy Joe Gonzales responded along with Ledbetter and Carmine Volunteer Fire Department and Fayette County EMS. The fire was contained and the structure was saved.
