Deadline to Apply for Voting By Mail is July 14
The deadline to receive an application to vote by mail for the July 14 Democratic Primary Runoff Election is Thursday, July 2, 2020. The application for a ballot by mail must be physically received in the Fayette County Election’s Office by close of business on the deadline date. Voters can fax or email their application to the Fayette County Elections Office on or before the deadline date, but the original application must be mailed to the office and received within four days of the date it was faxed or emailed in order for it to be considered a valid application.
Voters are eligible to vote by mail if they are aged 65+, disabled or in jail (if not convicted of a felony). Voters who will be absent from the county for the entire period of early voting through Election Day are also eligible to request a ballot by mail. If a voter is requesting a ballot by mail based on absence from the county, the ballot must be mailed to an address outside of the county.
When filling out the residence part of the application for a ballot by mail, please provide the voter’s full address as shown on the voter’s registration certificate. If the voter has moved within the county but not yet changed their voter registration address with the Fayette County Election’s Office, please indicate the new residence address on the application.
The ballot must be mailed to your home where you live or to your mailing address on your voter registration certificate. There are some exceptions that allow you to have your ballot mailed to a different location as specified below.
Voters who request a mail ballot based on absence from county, must expect to be absent from the county on Election Day and during the hours of early voting in person through Election Day. In these situations, the ballot must be mailed to an address outside the county.
Delivery of applications for ballot by mail may be done by using one of the following methods:
In Person: The applicant may submit their application to vote by mail by appearing in person the Fayette County Elections Office as long as early voting in person has not begun.
By Mail: Voters can mail their application to the Fayette County Elections Office, P.O. Box 605, La Grange, TX 78945.
By Common Contract Carrier: Voters can use contract carrier at their own expense to deliver the application.
By Fax: Voters can fax their application to the Fayette County Elections Office at (979) 968-6426.
By E-Mail: Voters can email a signed, scanned image of their application to the Fayette County Elections Office at elections@co.fayette.tx.us.
If a voter faxes or emails their application to the Fayette County Elections Office, the voter must mail the original application to the office and it must be received within four business days of the date that the voter faxed or emailed their application.
