State Representative Ben Leman, who represents Texas House District 13, which includes Fayette County, said Friday he will not run for relection saying: “After much consideration, prayer, and thoughtful discussion with my family, I have made the decision not to seek a fourth term as State Representative. It is hard to believe that by the end of my current term, it will be nearly ten years since I announced my candidacy for public office, first serving as Grimes County Judge and then as your State Representative.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Saturday Sept. 4, just after 2 p.m. Fayette County Deputy Ryan Meagher and Sergeant Charles Jobb were dispatched to the Green Acres Apartments for a questionable death investigation.

Legion, Auxiliary The American Legion Post 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.

The fair was back to normal. After most of The Fayette County Fair was cancelled last year because of the pandemic, Labor Day weekend was back to being festive at the fairgrounds in La Grange this year.

When researching another topic in some 1925-28 issues of Fayette County newspapers, I got sidetracked. Multiple references to “a monument erected by little children’ grabbed my attention. What kind of a monument was this and why were children involved?

Holy Cross will be having their church picnic this Sunday, Sept. 5. There will be lots of great barbecue. They will sell pork by the pound and fryers will be sold individually beginning at 9:30 a.m. The ladies will have side dishes of potato salad, beans, coleslaw and noodles available and as always lots of great baked goods.

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that officers responded to 144 calls for service during the week of Aug. 21-27.

The Fayette County Fair Commercial Heifer Show was held Friday, Aug. 28 and the sale was held on Saturday, Aug. 29. The event took place at the Fayette County Fair Grounds. Approximately 150 heifers were exhibited by local youth.
