Not Every Burn is Banned

On January 20, we conducted a prescribed burn on our property, treating about seven acres of native grasses. Like many landowners in Fayette County, we use grazing and fire together to maintain healthy, productive land.

Community Easter Egg Hunt Saturday in Fayetteville

Come hang out at the Square for three big festivities taking place this weekend. All ages are welcome to pop into the Fayetteville Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt, kicking off at 10 a.m. on Saturday. In addition to a special appearance by the Easter Bunny, enjoy a bounce house, refreshments (including hot dogs and snow cones), plenty of prizes and sweet surprises. Faith Lutheran High School Annual Good Friday Bake Sale will be held Friday, April 3 at the Classic Bank parking lot in Giddings. Homemade cookies, pies, cakes, kolaches, cinnamon rolls, breads, noodles and more will be available from 8 a.m. until sold out.

A Trip Through Scenery, Culture and History in East Texas

Last weekend my wife and I drove to East Texas to visit my step-son, who lives near Tyler. We fished with him and his bride on Lake Palestine and in the Neches River. We ate some crawfish and a gaspergou that I caught. But mostly, we had a great time just visiting.
A fellow named John taught me how to use the atlatl for throwing spears. I think I could kill a deer with one, if I had to.

An information session regarding the LGISD Bond Election is being held Wed. March 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club. In addition to the overview of the $90 million bond proposal being put before voters in the May 2 election, part of the event will include a question and answer session with district representatives.

County Livestock Show Begins this Week

Organizers of the Fayette County Junior Livestock Show invite everyone to support the 4-H and FFA exhibitors at the show this weekend, which takes place at the Fayette County Fairgrounds. Activities kick off on Thursday with the rabbit show.
