At Monthly Board Meeting, Superintendendent Says Elementary Getting Hit Hard by Flu

At Monday’s LGISD board meeting, Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported that the current enrollment for the district is 1,837. The breakdown by campus is: • Elementary school - 937 • Middle school - 293 • High school - 605 He told the board that the largest class at the elementary school is 4th grade with a total of 152, the largest class at the middle school is 7th grade with 148, and the largest at the high school is the 9th grade with 168.

La Grange ISD Western Art Winners

Here are pictures of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Western Art Competition top winners from La Grange ISD. These winners will advance to be judged in Houston. “Please join us for our local community HLSR Western Art Show. The show will be on Saturday, February 7, from 9 - 11 a.m. at the La Grange High School Cafeteria. There will be over 150 works on display,” said Jack Vollbaum, La Grange ISD High School art director.

17.5 Kolaches Eaten in 10 Minutes Wins Local Competition

Hruška’s Store & Bakery hosted a Kolache Eating Competition in Ellinger Saturday, bringing together competitors and spectators for an afternoon of community fun and live entertainment. Christopher Dale, 54, above, of League City took first place after eating 17½ kolaches in 10 minutes. Lauren MacQueen of Houston placed second. Third place went to Zach Pappert, known as one half of The MEEF Twins. Joseph Elston of Fayetteville finished fourth, followed by Laurie Sassin of Schulenburg in fifth. Live music was provided by Chris Rybak.
