Animal Shelter Update

As of June 20, the total intake for 2025 at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 868: 394 dogs and 474 cats in need. There are 168 animals in care: 62 dogs and 106 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to a rescue partner.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of May 11-18. Assault On May 15, Officer Steven Haynie was dispatched to the 200 block of Edgewood regarding assault family violence.

LCRA Accepting Applications in July for Community Grants of Up to $100,000

The Lower Colorado River Authority will accept applications in July for community grants for projects such as improvements to fire stations, community centers, sports fields, libraries and other facilities, as well as providing updated gear and equipment for emergency responders. One $100,000 grant will be offered in addition to dozens of grants of up to $50,000.

La Grange High School Class of 1963 Reunites

On Saturday, June 21, 28 members of the La Grange High School graduating class of 1963 gathered at Sealand Seafood & Steaks to celebrate the passing of 62 years since graduating. The classmates enjoyed fellowship among themselves, introduced spouses, and paused to remember and honor the 22 classmates who have passed away since graduation. Having had such a good time, the group voted to meet again in two years. Paradigm: What is Happening Behind Closed Doors?

There are now 26 registered sex offenders living at Paradigm at the Oak nursing home in Schulenburg. This is the greatest number of sex offenders residing at the facility since the Record began tracking it early this year after learning about a sexual assault that took place there.
