LG Contractors Voice Concerns Over Inspection Changes

A big crowd of construction contractors and business people packed the La Grange City Council Chamber Monday night. They were there to voice concerns about recent changes involving permitting and building inspections. Several of them spoke during the public comment period at the meeting.

Kids Camp Held at the Texas Quilt Museum

Beginner quilt-makers gathered at the Texas Quilt Museum (TQM) for a one-week Kids Quilting Camp that took place in collaboration with ARTS for Rural Texas. Eight young ladies and one young man were guided by teachers, Laurie Talbert, and JoAnn Gore, with help from Ashton Kettler and Makenna Emmel; and together, they created a Nine Patch Quilt-As-You-Go” quilt. They enjoyed their own special exhibit on Friday, June 13.

Quick Action Halts House Fire

Some quick thinking by local folks stopped a house fire from getting a whole lot worse last Friday evening, June 20. Pastor Will Martin of Muldoon Baptist Church and his wife Kendra were driving by the boat ramp at the Colorado River in La Grange when they noticed a fire burning on the porch of a house.

The Fayette County Record Travels to Nepal

Alyssa Brade, a Junior at Mary Hardin Baylor University in Belton, was selected by her professors to participate on a Missionary Trip to Nepal, Asia. Alyssa is a pre-occupational therapy, Major. Alyssa’s plane landed at Nepal, and from there they proceeded to hike up the Himalayan Mountains, an elevation of more than 29,000 ft. Alyssa is the daughter of Leann and Tucker Briscoe of Pflugerville and the granddaughter of Harry and Patricia Lehmann of La Grange.

Texas Master Naturalist Program Meeting July 19

The Texas Master Naturalists Gideon Lincecum Chapter will hold a program, “Meet Your TPWD Biologists,” on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in Columbus. The county biologists, as a panel of experts, will share their insight about land stewardship and resources to assist landowners: Katie Edwards (Colorado), Drake Rangel (Fayette), Mark Lange (Austin), Laura Sherrod (Lee), and Stephanie Damron (Washington).
