Literacy Day 2025

Everyone is invited to the monthly Community Prayer Gathering. This is an area wide multi-church sponsored event meeting the first Sunday of each month beginning at 5 p.m. at Redimidos por Cristo Church located across the street from Tejas Healthcare. The address is 131 S. College St. in La Grange. Please join us as we pray for our local community, our nation and our world.

BRIDGE is excited to announce Community Literacy Day, a family-friendly event celebrating the joy of reading and the importance of literacy in our rural communities, on Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Schulenburg Public Library from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., 310 Simpson St., Schulenburg and at the Stanzel Museum from noon 2 p.m. The day will begin at the Public Library followed by engaging activities at the museum with literacy activities for children and families. Free giveaways and community resources. The first 100 families to arrive will receive a complimentary swag bag. This event is hosted in collaboration with the Parents as Teachers (PAT) Little Readers Program.

There’s more The Lions Sealy Dance Club is having a dance on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the SealyAmerican Legion Hall located at 1630 Meyer St. in Sealy. The band, Al Sulak And The Country Sounds, will be providing live music from 7:30-11 p.m. The public is welcome.

Adult Technology Training

Join for Adult Technology Training at the Fayette County Library in La Grange on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. - noon. All computer questions are welcome. No one is born knowing this stuff. If your computer is giving you problems, bring it along. Six seats are available. Registration is required, call (979) 968-3765.

AMEN Closed Monday

The AMEN Food Pantry will be closed Monday, Sept. 1 in observance of Labor Day and will reopen for food distribution on Monday, Sept. 8.

Retired Teachers Association Meeting

The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association will meet Monday, Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the New Life Methodist Church fellowship hall in La Grange. Join for an ice cream social, games and goodies. All retired teachers and school personnel are welcome to attend. Bring a friend who you would like to attend the gathering with and learn what the Texas Retired Teachers Association has to offer.

Live Music Monday

Lee County Senior Center hosts live music Monday, Sept. 8 from 6-8 p.m. at 165 W. Austin Street in Giddings featuring Glen Orts and Joey Krchnak. Refreshments will be served. For information, call (512) 762-4343. Any donations collected will be awarded to the talent. Doors open at 5 p.m.

When Cotton Was King Exhibit

The TCHCC museum features the “When Cotton was King” Exhibit. The exhibit begins with planting the seeds and ends with the sale of and beginning of the cotton’s journey to textiles. Come early or stay after to view the exhibit and take part in the “Find A Gin” interactive map. The exhibit will run through November. Join us in welcoming presenters Steph Jarvis and Ronnie Stanley from the Texas Cotton Gin Museum and Gary McKee, Fayette Co. Historian and Texas Polka News Editor. The program will be on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center’s Hanslik Hall and Museum located at 250 West Fairgrounds Road in La Grange. TCHCC is partnering with the Texas Cotton Gin Museum from Burton on the exhibit and program. There is no admission, donations are welcomed. American Legion, Auxiliary No. 102 The American Legion Post and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange. The Post is requesting input and participation from all area Veterans as they will be discussing planning for our Nation’s 250th Birthday. The Auxiliary is also encouraging members to attend and show support for Veterans and their families. Irene Szwarc, 19th District President, plans to be in attendance to update membership about the recent State Department Convention held in Austin. New members are always welcome. A light meal will be served, with the regular business meetings to follow.

Fellowship, Tacos and Bingo

Enjoy fellowship, tacos and bingo at New Life Methodist Church, 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange, on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The new group name is Friends N Fellowship to include all age groups.

Senior Citizens Game Day

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host game day on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 9 - 11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. West Navidad Wildlife Management The Spring West Navidad Wildlife Management meeting is set for Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Rockin “W” Sale Barn on Hwy. 77 North of Schulenburg. Social is 5-6 p.m. Meal will be served from 6-6:30 p.m., please bring a dessert. Plates served are $10 a person. Soda, tea and water is provided (BYOB). Program begins at 6:30 p.m. with business meeting at 7 p.m. Silent auction and raffle begins at 7:45 p.m. Bring item(s) for donating to the raffle and silent auction to help support the Scholarship fund.

Fayetteville Schools Reunion

The annual reunion for graduates of Fayetteville High School and St. John’s School will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Joe’s Place on the Fayetteville Square. It will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a social, meeting and advance ticket meal. The meal cost is $18/ person with payment due by Sept. 10. La Grange & Schulenburg Chess Clubs The La Grange Chess Club meets on Mondays from 5:156:15 p.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center, Building C. The Schulenburg Chess Club meets at the Schulenburg Public Library each Wednesday from 4:45-5:45 p.m. Participation is free for ages five to adult. Free chess lessons are available. Holy Smokers Not Cooking in September The Holy Smokers will not cook in September as there is not enough smokers. The group plans to be back in October.
